We are cruising 6/10/2018. If I get a placeholder, I know I have 2 years to use it, but what is the actual start date of the timer? Is it 6/10? or whatever day I actually book it while I'm on the boat?

You have 2 years from the date you book the placeholder. I usually try to book it on the last full day of the cruise so I maximize the time I have to use it.

Smart thinking! I was worried if I wanted to cruise the same week 2 years later (bc of school ending dates), if the cruise was off by a day or two how that would work, but a 4/5 day cushion will fix that! Thank you!

but many times that last day is crazy at the future booking desk!! So be prepared for a wait (frequently)

I suggest getting to the booking desk 15 to 20 minutes before they open. We were fortunate to be walking by before they opened and we were 3rd in line. When we left there was a line of folks.

Yes! This is what I do.

So I was just playing with some dates and estimating,..

So if I book a placeholder 6/14/18, when is the last day my next cruise has to start?

I tried looking on the website, and it says 24 months, so I am not sure if that means I have all of June 2020 or not...

If you book the placeholder (or a cruise and move the dates) on 6/14/18, you would need to embark by 6/14/20. 24 months EXACTLY from the day you made the booking.

I thought you could just drop off the paperwork and the future-booking agent would put your receipt in your Fish.

I went a couple of days before the last day and I mentioned that timing issue. The CM took it in stride and said, "No problem. I'll mark it down to charge it on the day we return to port." Sure enough, there is a charge on my card for the placeholders on the day we disembarked.

So speak to them earlier in your cruise and bring that concern forward. If you can book earlier in the week and still have it charged later, that will give you the most days. It's better than waiting in a 15-deep line of people hoping to book on the second to last or last day if you don't have to.

Does anyone know if you book a placeholder, and you then schedule a cruise for a future date, can that date be changed to another year past the original date of the placeholder? I'm assuming not, but thought I would check.

Thanks.

Do you mean book a placeholder. And then assign it to a cruise (that's within the 24 month time period). Then later change the cruise to a cruise that's outside the 24 month window? Yes you can. But you'll lose the onboard booking perks.

I didn't mean that, but interesting point. What happens then? Do I lose the discount + the on board credits? Do I lose the $200 placeholder value?

You will still get the $200 credit (actually $250 now) toward the new cruise, but no OBC, 10% reduction in fare.

If you're asking about moving a cruise date (with onboard booking perks attached) to a new cruise (still within the 24 month window) - yes, you can do this. But you'll pay the cost of the new cruise at the time of the change.
