Well, for those of you who read my cruise questions, it's now pretty much decided that we will do a 4 night cruise in Feb 07. I have also managed to talk DH's best man and his girlfriend and my best mate and her husband into coming with us :Pinkbounc

We now need somewhere to stay at Disney for a couple of nights either before or after the cruise. Would like to stay somewhere fairly nice but preferably not too expensive. I was considering renting DVC points and getting a 2-bed villa at SSR or BWV. Has anyone got any other suggestions please?

Also, can anyone tell me why February is considered to be Dream Season - does that mean everywhere will be busy in February.

Hi Joh,
Can't help you with accomodation but there are 2 holidays in feb which might affect crowds. Lincoln's Birthday fall on feb 12th (Monday) so this will be a national holiday. The other one is Presidents Day around 20th feb. This is a week long holiday from 16th to 24th Feb and the crowds will definately be around. Sounds like the first two weeks should be fine, but avoid the last two if you're flexible.
Hope this helps,
Claire xx

We have always been the last week in feb and the 1st week in march.Last year the second week we walked on everything, everywhere.

The first week on the 2 occasions we have been there have been quite a bit busier but, i couldn't compare it to any other busy times in the year.

Hi Wilma-Bride

just wondered if you were set on staying at a Disney property...seeing as there are 6 of you a town house or villa would be very cost effective...

We rented a 4 bed town house on Regal Palms from a private owner in Plymouth - lovely big house ...plenty of room for 6 adults and the pool complex was fantastic! It took us 15 mins to get to Disney and cost us $55 a night in Feb !!...check out this website, but be warned you will get a better deal (and house) from a private owner than through a travel firm ;

There is a shuttle service from this resort - though I haven't any details as we did not use it.

If you rent a villa/ townhouse, you could leave your stuff there whilst on the cruise and do some Disney stuff before, and after ! :thumbsup2

Lincoln's Birthday isn't a national holiday. It's a holiday in some states (e.g. Illinois), but it isn't a federal holiday. And if memory serves, none of the confederacy states recognize Lincoln's birthday (he's not as big a hero in the south as in the rest of the country - on the other hand, Confederate Memorial Day is an official state holiday in many southern states).

In other words, Lincoln's birthday isn't what affects February crowd levels at WDW.
However, President's day (the third Monday in February) and President's week do affect crowd levels.

We have had 3 holidays which have incorporated President's Day at some point, crowds were noticeably busier on that day but the shops have some excellent sales. We didn't particularly find the lines a problem.

The weather is a bit hit and miss, it has always been warm enough to go to a water park though we have felt a bit chilly waiting in line to go down a slide once you are wet. The first time we went we had a couple of overcast days with light rain, the second was affected by the El Nino effect and we saw a lot more rain, the last time was red hot with no rain at all. But then who can predict the weather?

We're not too worried about crowds because (shock, horror) we're not planning to do the parks anyway. We would like to stay at Disney because we want to do some of the nightlife/out of park stuff.

I prefer OKW to SSR. For nightlife, you're probably best off with the BWV or BCV, although the WLV's really nice.

If you end up paying (rather than renting points), 3 rooms at a moderate will be less expensive than a 2 BR at any of the resorts. And then you'll have 3 bathrooms instead of 2 and everyone will get a bed (as opposed to some people being stuck on a sofabed).

Of course you won't have the kitchen, but i still think it would be more comfortable than 6 people in a 2 bedroom.

If you do want a 2 bedroom, those at the OKW are much larger than any of the others, so you might feel less cramped there.

We walk from SSR to PI so is good for an evening drink at the clubs etc.

Have a great time and let us know what you decide.
