I've been looking into getting an IPOD (I like to get things a few years after everyone else has them ;) ). I found a couple at WalMart I liked for around $200 (is there some place to find them cheaper?). I don't need to store a million songs or need anything fancy, just something I can download songs off of the internet on to (maybe 2-5 thousand song storage). TIA! :goodvibes

Apple is actually really restrictive on the prices that merchants can sell the iPods for. You will not see a lot of discounts on them unless you get them on eBay or refurbished. The refurbs are actually pretty nice. You will not find many rewards sites that give much in the way of cash back on them either because of the restrictions. Usually only about 1%.

If you are a student, you can get a 10% discount. My hubby is taking one Masters course a semester, so I was able to get him a good deal on one for Christmas last year. If you do not want one with a video screen, you can get them REALLY cheap. But the screens are pretty cool. LOL! If you are going to get a 4GB nano, you pretty much might as well get the 30 GB iPod.

We use ours for everything now---party playlists, exercise playlists, even management podcasts!

The cheapest IPod is to buy someone else's MP3 player. iRiver is a good choice.

(I have an iPod and like it - but the iRiver is a nice player).

If you buy one refurbished off of ebay, just stay away from the old 40GB ones. DH got one about a year and a half ago, and they had already REPLACED it under warranty TWICE. This last time that it died, it was out of warranty so they could do nothing. They said that they had hard drive problems with the older ones so that's why they kept dying.

I've had my Nano for 7 months and it's been great!!

I saw some at our Costco that were a little cheaper then everyone else (not much but at least a few dollars which everyone helps)

I have a 30 gig Apple HP Ipod that I bought six months ago. I thought I would use it more and I just don't. I haven't downloaded a lot of songs and it works great. I was going to sell it on ebay but I'd sell it to you for $125.

PM me if you are interested.

I have an iRiver that I bought on Amazon with an instant rebate. It came to $49.00. I love it. It's very small and holds hundreds (not thousands) of songs.

I just bought two reconditioned ones from Apple directly. They seem to work the same as the new ones and they come with the same warranty. Also one was one special and it came with additional accessories.

Check Fatwallet.com and GottaDeal.com for a comparison of prices and reviews. Great deals!!

i love my NANO!!!!

HIya NLC23! good luck finding something!

I just bought DH a brand new NANO from Target for $149.99 on sale. It's the 1GB size, but will hold 1000 songs which is plenty. He's getting it today as an anniversary gift (it's our 15th anniversary today). I have the Ipod Mini and love it - I use it all the time. You can't go wrong with Apples because iTunes is so easy to use.

sunshinegirl, who is offering the student discount? I am working on my bachelors and am taking one class every semester too :teacher: The iPod is the planned Christmas gift for me and my husband, so a 10% discount sounds really good :yay:

Only thing I wanted to mention (and I'm not sure if it has been already, but JUST in case) is that when I got my Nano, a couple of co-workers said "Oh, go to WalMart.com and get downloads for 88 cents!" Well, I went there and apparently their downloads do not work on Ipods. Stinky. Oh well, I just get one once in a while, and keep looking for contest that are giving away free downloads :thumbsup2

I think Apple must set the pricing on ipods. I never see them on sale anywhere. Every store around here (Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, Walmart) all sell them for the same price. We got our son an ipod nano this past spring for $200. It was, and still is $200 everywhere around here.

My DH works for Apple and yes the price is set so any variation you find will only be a few dollars. With that said, if you have an apple retail store near you, I would buy it from them as they can offer you a level of support you will not get at Best Buy, etc.

This is also where you can get the student/educator discount.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for all of the replies! Disers are the best! I'll definitely look into a few of the options. I'm kind of going back and forth on whether or not I really want an iPod. I would primarily be using it for going to the gym so I don't know if it's worth it just for that. Thanks a lot for all of the suggestions!

You can just go directly to Apple's website. I found an "Education" link on the main page last night but cannot find it now. It allowed you to see everything without putting in your school.

This one works but you have to put in your school:

Someone must have authorized a sale at Target since I just bought a Nano on sale for $149 on Tuesday.

Actually the 1BG, 240 song capacity Nano, is regularly priced at $149.
