Hey

got a cruise booked for next for Feb and sept next year

If come Feb it works out better to put a place holder on my sept cruise can they transfer it from the money I have already paid or do I need to cancel and do refunds and pay again which can take about a week or so time the banks refund my card

Or will I not need to give any money for place holder and they will just transfer it ?

A "placeholder" is for an unspecified date; it can be used for any cruise within 24 months. It requires a $250 deposit (US$). I don't believe they'll "transfer" any current monies held to a "placeholder."

If you already have a specific date in mind, you can do an OBB for it. The deposit amount will depend on the cost of the cruise; 10% deposit for cruises of 7+ nights and 20% deposit for shorter cruises. If you used a TA, you will need to make a separate OBB and have the TA handle "reconciling" the 2 reservations. If you booked directly with DCL, there have been varied reports as to whether the future cruise bookings CM is able to shift a deposit and cancel the first reservation, or if you will need to do that from home.

Enjoy your cruise!

In our experience they cancel and refund the booking (unfortunately) and make a new booking with a new deposit. You will get your original deposit back but have to wait for it to process to your card- for us 3 days.

Another thing to think about is that you might not be able to get the same room/s- if that matters. We didn't care, but the cm told us the rooms we had on the other reservation would not show up as open right away after we cancelled.

So if I no the date. Can they not just give me the benfits with a booking I already have paid for, so saves refunds etc I booked direct with dcl

So I don't need to budget any money for the place holder when I go as they will transfer it ?

I mean, it's correct that they won't just transfer any monies paid to another reservation to a placeholder. You'd have to cancel the actual reservation, get a refund, and make a new, placeholder, reservation.
