I'm a little confused about how the dining plan works.

I'll be taking advantage of the Military Salute tickets for my husband and I.(kids are under 3) His will be free since he is enlisted and we are purchasing mine.

We're ALSO going to be using the militry discount on our hotel room.

Is it possible to get the dining plan booking the trip THIS way?

It's cheaper than the Magic Your Way packages for us to do it this way...

So I guess the question is:

If I pay for the resort using the military discount...and redeem my husband's and pay for for my park passes...can I ADD the dining plan?

(Oooohh..... maybe not. I think you have to buy the passes at the ticket counter there huh?)

Yes, you can add on a dining plan without purchasing a package.

which hotel has a military discount? If you're talking about the Swan or Dolphin you cannot get the dining plan at all at those resorts - they are not actually Disney hotels. You must be staying at an actual Disney-owned hotel to get any dining plan.

No...probably POR or POFQ...MAYBE WL or AKL if I can talk the hubby into it...LOL

Yes, you should be able to add basic or quick-service dining to the military discount, if you are staying at a Disney resort (not Swan & Dolphin or Shades of Green). I'm not sure on the details of how it has to be packaged, I've just seen that it was indeed possible, though for some reason, an upgrade to deluxe dining is not possible.

Awesome...we loved POFQ last year (and going back soon!) Haven't been to WL, but have been inside & outside at AKL and it's wonderful looking.

There were special codes that allow you to add the quick service or standard dining plan to a military room only reservation. I don't remember the codes, but when I reserved my room (staying in December with the military discount and no tickets on the reservation) they knew which code to enter for me based on what I wanted.

DO you know where I can find the prices for the individual dining plans?

I've been looking EVERYWHERE on the web all morning and can only find it when searching the Magic Your Way packages.

Right here, of course. :) Just check out the "everything you wanted to know" sticky for full details.

Short version:

Basic: $39.99 adult (10+) / $10.99 child (3-9) per night of your stay
QSDP: $29.99 adult (10+) / $8.99 child (3-9) per night of your stay

You can buy the dining plan with the military room discount and military tickets. I do not believe that extends to the deluxe dining plan though. Regular and quick service plans only.

What you can't do is get free dining with the military discount.

I DID know that one! LOL...Now all I have to do is figure out if the QS plan is the best idea for us...husband does NOT enjoy eating at sit down restaraunts...or if it's more reasonable to pay OOP...

But what if she buys the obigatory 1 day ticket to get the "package" as people w/ AP's do? My one question though, is can that one day ticket be to a water park? Or does it have to be to a theme park?

It would have to be a MYW ticket, and I'm not sure it would be an option in conjunction with the military discount.

I have been looking for the answer to this everywhere! Thanks for posting this.

Is there any special code you need to get the mlitary rate for the hotel and any hotels that aren't included?

You should be able to just call for your reservation and tell them that it will be under the military discount promotion. They should be able to hook you up.

Assuming you're asking about free dining (that's the only reason AP holders would need to buy a ticket to get dining) she could not get the 40% off discount AND free dining. Free dining is not combinable with any other discount. You either get military room discount and military tickets, or you select free dining, which means you have to get a MYW package with a rack rate room and at least a 1 day park ticket. (you could get that one-day ticket AND the military tix and just use the military ticket and save the 1 day one. But you cannot combine the 40% off room discount and free dining)

And it can't be a water park or any auxiliary ticket. It has to be at least a one-day, one park MYW ticket.

That's the answer I was looking for...but they could buy the military tickets (where the soldier gets in free this year, and they family members can get $99 5 day tickets--salute to the soldiers, I believe) and still pay rack rate during FD and only buy the MYW one day ticket, BUT it has to be a MYW and not water park...my neighbor thinks they can do this, and I didn't think it was goign to work. Now to tell them w/o being a know it all...

I had orginally booked this package and yes you can add dining. You do not have to have any tickets on the package b/c the military package is a room only package. I booked the room and added the dining package with no tickets on the ressie. Hope this helps!
