We live in the country so we never every have pizza delivered to our home. However tomorrow we are having a girl scout pizza party at a residence in town--we are ordering 5 large pizzas @$8 each. How much should I tip the delivery guy? is it a percent or by the pizza?

Sorry silly question, but I wanted to make certain I have close to the right amount of cash on hand.

thanks

Is it snowing by you? How are the roads? When it's raining in San Diego (which San Diegans make out to be as an apocalyptic event), I will tip extra.

If you're getting $40 worth of pizzas, I'd tip $10. Maybe more if it takes him a lot of effort to get to your place with bad weather. I usually tip our pizza delivery people $5 for a $20 order.. that's where I'm coming from.

Interested to see what others will say.

I tip at least 20%, rounding up to the nearest $5 increment. So for a $40 order, I would tip $10.

Gotta say I agree with the others and would tip $10, extra if the weather is bad. My thinking on the weather is that if I do not want to go out in it, but I am asking another to do so, then I better make sure I thank them LOL.

I haven't had pizza delivered in a long time (we have a local pizza place around the corner that we drive to), but you guys are making me feel cheap. Guess I will have to remember this for the next time.

Now I'm feeling bad. I usually tip $5, regardless of what we order. Dh only wants to tip $2, I have to "overrule" him.

I order one large pizza that is $10. The guy drives about 1/2 mile to deliver it. I think $4 is enough. If I order 2 I still would only tip $5. I never order more than that.

My DS has been delivering pizza while at college for about the past year. He gets paid practically nothing (no minimum wage because he is a tipped employee). Also, like many college kids he doesn't have the best running car so a lot of his earnings/tips goes to fill up the gas tank and wear and tear. A huge thank you to those that tip!!!

It's always snowing here lol I'm thinking I should be good if I tip between $8-$10.
thanks!

WOW! Normal tipping for food delivery is not based on cost around me. Normal tipping is $2.

If in a work environment and folks are getting together to order, then everyone pretty much tips a buck so that the driver will make out pretty good with 6-7 folks or more tipping.

I guess not now. That Hoagie Shop delivery guy should move to where you guys are.

Same here.

We tip 15% for takeout, rounded up. In poor weather, a little more. A lot of food deliverers already include a delivery fee, which is why I maintain 15%.

My son delivers pizza and many people do not tip at all - some even making sure they get the exact change back. I believe the company pays them $1 per delivery - no mileage money no matter how far the delivery. We live in a rural area so most deliveries are probably 5 miles or more. It's extremely rare to be tipped $5 or more.

For most places, the delivery fee does not go to the driver. They MIGHT get a buck or two out of it... but most of the deliverers I have known get nothing.

I figure... I tip a waitress 20% to take my order, bring the food, and then take the bill. I can tip 20% to someone who drives to my house in all kinds of conditions to deliver me a pizza. That is just the way I think about it personally.

We usually tip 20% but in your case with the large order I would round it up to $10.

I would have tipped $5-$8 depending on how difficult the delivery was.

I usually give our drivers about $3 for our single family delivery. 20% seems like way too much to me. If mean if you want to, great, but I don't think it should be the standard unless the delivery is complicated or difficult.

Just curious...looking at your siggie you're traveling well and frequently. Yet 20% to the pizza person is too much?
