Someone mentioned that they have had a couple of occasions where "pixie dust" was sprinkled on their stateroom reservation and they noticed, upon log-in, that they had been magically upgraded. Has anyone ever experienced this? :tink:

Upgrades are rare, very rare, but can occur, only book a room you are happy with as its like winning the lottery.

I book concierge where it is almost unheard of.

Guarantee rooms are the most likely to be upgraded a bit.

You can pay for upgrades if available at port on check in.

We got the inside stateroom on the Dream and since this is our first Disney cruise, I am just happy to be going with my family. I am also kinda excited about seeing the little starfish, etc. that pop up on the "port hole". :jumping1:

It does happen on occasion. On our 1st Disney cruise, we booked an Oceanview Stateroom on Deck 2. About 2-3 weeks before the cruise, I logged into my reservation and my Stateroom number had changed. When I checked the deck plans, it was a Verandah Stateroom on Deck 6. Of course now I am spoiled and on my next 3 cruises booked a verandah stateroom.

I have been "upgraded" twice on Gty cat 7 bookings. I wonder if this might actually be relatively common as there are so many more regular verandahs than navigator verandahs.

Happened once to us. On our first cruise in 2000 we had booked a outside stateroom and ended up with verandah. Having the verandah spoiled us and we have booked one ever since.

Yes we did - we were upgraded to Concierge on the Fantasy in April and it was absolutely WONDERFUL! Never assumed it would have happened, awfully glad it did, doubt it ever will again but we enjoyed every second of it!

What difference does the Concierge make?:hyper2:

A friend one time was upgraded to a verandah room, they had booked a room with a porthole window (don't know specific categories). DCL called her a few weeks before the cruise to give her the "good news". Which was not good news at all to her - they specifically hadn't booked a verandah because they had a toddler who was prone to climbing. So she made them change it back, but it was a big ordeal and took several days to get their original room back and several CMs were apparently less than polite about it.

Honestly, I'd be a little annoyed too to be "upgraded" without being asked first. I researched for many hours and specifically chose our stateroom because it was the one I wanted.

It takes a perfect vacation, and adds glitter to the sparkle on it. Love your bed on the Disney cruise? You dive into luxury in a concierge stateroom. Great service from the Guest Services staff already? The concierge lounge staff, i swear, has eidetic memory (especially Andy.) Love rounding the corner to new experiences and surprises? They happen frequently in the concierge lounge. If there's a small premium between the regular verandahs and the Cat 00V's, always go Cat V - it will be worth it (yes, I know 'small premium' is subjective.) I love the added privacy that traveling concierge on the Disney ships offers, along with the added assistance. I have to travel frequently for work, and it's stressful on me, so I am grateful to the team, both prior to your cruise, and during the cruise, that make me able to go on a brain detox, from life.

I should probably add that I'll sleep in a broom closet on any of the Disney ships, and have slept in all categories, on almost itineraries except Alaska and the trans ones, so I will in no way belittle any of the categories or sailings. To me, it's like adding a little kick to an already perfect experience.

FYI: I was told by TA you can add "Do not change cabin or upgrade" to your reservation.

This is actually my fear! We have an 8A Oceanview stateroom booked, and I do NOT want to be upgraded to a verandah. We put a note on our reservation asking not to be upgraded, so I hope they do not. I really wish they would contact people before upgrading because I know there are some people who would love an upgrade and others like me who would hate it. It would be better for it to go to someone who wanted it.

This would be me. I would be seriously having a panic attack and nightmares if they upgraded us to a verandah for the same reasons as your friend. And before people explain the many safety features of the doors and the fact that we can have verandah furniture removed--I do know that, and it doesn't matter. My anxiety is extremely irrational, and I know this, but I cannot shake it.
