Pixie dust is gone

I have to say the "pixie dust" (to me: that magical feeling of stepping into a story) is still there!! However, I haven't had MB issues, I don't have children who will cry if they don't meet A&E and the stress that comes with that as a parent, I only go for short visits now and don't spend a majority of my time planning for everything to be perfect.

I would never berate someone for not seeing the value of a Disney vacation, that's not fair. Nor would I call them a "negative nelly" for not liking the changes made at Disney. Therefore, when I say maybe it's time for a new vacation destination, it's not meant to be negative.

When you spend your hard earned money, precious time, and sanity for a vacation--it should BE a vacation!! If you're more stressed at your vacation destination than you are at your job, something isn't working. Find something that makes you happy and less stressed for a while and maybe try Disney again later (when some of these bugs are worked out, cause I believe they are just temporary).

Whatever you do, I wish you lots of magic and most of all precious family memories!!

nope still a happy place for us.....as in life it is what you make it........

I have to chime in to agree with this sentiment. Count me among those who have never understood why people on this board consider it a moral insult to suggest that maybe you shouldn't spend valuable vacation time at a place you no longer enjoy.

Visiting WDW is expensive and time consuming, and I think a lot of times people on these boards ignore the opportunity cost of making repeated WDW trips. Every time you go to WDW you are missing an opportunity to use that time and money to go someplace new. It's a big planet and as they say, there is more to see than can ever be seen.

You'll be dead someday, and whenever that day comes it will seem to soon. Why oh why would you waste even one precious free day at a place that makes you angry? If both the company overcharging you and your fellow tourists are all to frustrating to you, by all means go somewhere relaxing or interesting or just plain new!

Can't speak for others - but I do go other places ever year as well.
I spend a few weeks in Europe each year and as I said I spend more an more time at Universal each trip.
I do agree that if your only going to Disney every year and are frustrated maybe you should try something new.

I keep going to Disney because I did have a lot of great times there and I keep hoping things will improve.

I also think it is valid for people that are frustrated with Disney to come here and share their opinion. People should hear both sides of the argument and decide for themselves.

If all we have is people saying how great everything is this site will get very dull very quick.

In the end we all like Disney (expect the 10% that just come here to troll) and should be able to express our frustration without the people telling us to just go away - which does happen far too often IMO

Agree. I think we should be able to express our grievances and not be told to get lost. I come on the boards to see if others are feeling the way I do about a particular issue. I also hope that Disney does read these boards, because I think these opinions matter. Both the positive and the negative.

Just keep in mind that some of us who say that things aren't the same actually love WDW and have for quite some time. I can't speak for others but a few of Disney's actions have really hurt me personally. It's not going to cause me issues or anything like that but some things that have happened mean something and not in a good way. It's hard to get past that but I hope that I do in some form.

Since there are fewer people on these boards who like fp+ than don't- chances are, the likes are getting told to effectively get lost more than the dislikes.

Regardless, it comes from both sides. Just this morning, I again got told I was an apologist. I should be able to express my opinions without name calling- but I'm not. Neither side is innocent.

I respect that many people still think the magic is there, but can we PLEASE stop with the "you create your own pixie dust/your attitude determines your vacation" stuff? It completely dismisses the hours and hours of time some of us have spent on the phone with Disney IT or in line at guest relations or being turned away at the turnstiles and back to GR AGAIN for a problem that was "fixed." Again. Not being able to get FP+ for rides we used to be able to get FP- for (and don't get me started on Mine Train as a local). And on and on. Many of you have had a wonderful experience with FP+ and that's great. But your reality is not my reality. No amount of "making my own pixie dust" or having a positive attitude is going to make my MB finally work or fix the problem with my entire family's MBs--because I was told the problem actually can't be fixed. Not even with pixie dust, apparently.

It's really, really hard not to be annoyed at these things. It's hard to see the magic. And it's sad for us, because, here's the thing: it wasn't always like this. But most of us keep coming back in the hopes that we can find the magic again, anyway.

Plus you can make your own magic anywhere. It's not a good argument for returning to WDW.

And you can also spend plenty of money, time and effort on planning a vacation somewhere besides WDW and end up finding yourself upset, frustrated, and disappointed with the planning, expectations and outcome - not unique to WDW vacations.

My last trip to WDW was terrible. On the way through the turnstile, a piece of the wrought-iron gate broke off and impaled my skull. The EMTs were able to saw off the post, but because I had an iron rod sticking out of my head, I was unable to ride Space Mountain.

Reply: You should be happy just to be at Disney. There are so many other things to do besides ride the rides. You should have had a good attitude despite the iron rod sticking out of your skull and made your own magic.

True. It works both ways. WDW is simply providing you a service as countless companies do. Everyone has to decide for themselves if that service is worth it.

I will add that I've had horrible experiences elsewhere just like anyone but I always chalk those up as learning experiences. I'm not sure how to categorize the frustration (for me) of trying to enjoy WDW.

Yep. Oh wait, except for the months when I couldn't get INTO Disney without first visiting Guest Relations every time. So...I should have been happy outside the gates enjoying the sound of the monorail and the ferry horn as I waited in line in the full sun. Again. (Did I mention this happened every time?) ;)

Another case of creating an answer to your question yourself. No one has said that no matter what, if your trip isn't perfect, it's your fault.

You say these things, then a few posts or days later it gets quoted as though someone actually said it and meant it. And then, it becomes a fact that has to be proven wrong.

You are incorrect when you say that "no one" has said these things. The reason it's funny is because people have, in fact, taken similar positions. Perhaps you have not, but others have.

cakebaker, you clearly do not appreciate my sense of humor. Please add me to your ignore list so you don't have to be subjected to my posts and feel the need to constantly find fault with them.

Sorry, but when I see a post I feel like commenting on, I do. You don't get to post unchallenged. None of us do.

But feel free to put me on your blocked list and you won't be irritated or insulted by any response I might have.

So then I guess you will stop crying "foul" that people are taking "jabs" at you when someone disagrees with you.

Hopefully you can tell the difference between challenging an opinion and being insulting, sarcastic and calling someone names.

Can you? You keep claiming insult and name calling where none has occured.

Feel free to provide examples where I have called anyone names.

I'll help you out... I did mention "lunatics" in a recent post, but I did not aim that at a specific individual or even anyone who is on these boards any longer.

All of these accusations feel sarcastic and insulting, almost like you're just piling on. Please stop that.

This is especially disheartening after I recently agreed with you on several points about the positive facets of FP+. Can't we all just get along?

If an unfortunate incident happens to you on your trip, such as your Magic Band not working properly and you have to go to Guest Services each time and waste a half hour before you can enter the park, that is...an unfortunate incident and damn unlucky.

But it's also exceedingly rare? Things happened before MDE and Magic Bands as well. Hotels in Hawaii and Aruba also can lose your hotel reservation and planes can overbook and lose your luggage.

Does it mean that the magic is gone for Hawaii and Aruba if you have an unfortunate experience? I mean, no one is saying that trips can't get rocky and sometimes Disney messes up and for whatever reason can't fix a problem that you waste hours on trying to address. It's just bad luck, though.

To make a blanket statement like, "The magic is gone!" because of your one bad experience is what gets people's goat. I don't know why you had such bad luck on your trip but sometimes these things happen at any locale and blaming Disney and painting them as a magic-less place because of it is going to get on people's nerves.

Like, you have my sympathy and maybe Disney failed you or perhaps there were other reasons for a perfect storm of problems on your trip, but that doesn't mean the pixie dust is gone in Disney World. If you've decided it's gone for YOU, well, then fine, but it's still just one negative experiences out of millions.

I don't know why people seem to think that one bad experience means that Disney World can now be painted a pixie-dust place. Also, I said it before, but I really think such threads, especially since they're so inflammatory, belong in the Trip Reports forum, rather than here. One Trip Report opinion is just that - it doesn't mean you should make blanket statements regarding Disney World and acting like they're news.
