Ok Disney Vets.... could you post your best ideas for making our first trip to Disney magical? DD is 7, DS is 4. I already have a postcard coming to the kids from another DIS member....thinking about leaving some little gifts in the room (like a princess dress for DD's American Girl doll).....what things have you done for your children that made the trip more magical? TIA!

Not sure if you are traveling by car or plane, but the children need to be entertained on the trip. I print out pages to color and activity books with Disney themes. You can download for free from the disney web site - on the character's home page - click on Disney magic artist. I also get things from the dollar store or clearance including new markers, paper pads, crayons or color pencils. Then find a neat small bag or container and make up a package that you slip into each child's carry on for them to "discover" on the trip.

I have also had the "pixies" leave a small gift by the children's beds each night for them to find in the morning. Again, the dollar store and clearance racks. Key chains, stickers, disney princess or buzz chap stick, little flashlights that I added disney stickers to personalize, different types of glow sticks or necklaces or balls or braclets. I do wrap each item in tissue paper that has glitter in it and tie with a bright colored ribbon. I find that they enjoy the unwrapping as much as the present.

Well, I always stock up on treats/surprises before we go. When the boys go to bed every night there, I set out their clothes for the next AM..Actually, I set out a freezer bag. Yes, a freezer bag with their clothes pre-packed. An outfit-a-day. It's a great thing. Anyway, I put the surprise on top of their clothes, or sometimes it will be something new to wear. EX: Disney shirts purchased at DisneyStore before we leave or WalMart, visor or hat, glownecklace things from the Dollar store, candy, disposable cameras, fun fat pens for autograph books, swirl-light things from DidStore, toy figures for the younger son (probably too old this trip). None of this costs me much $$ but it makes it fun to plan and they never seem to remember they might wake to a surprise b/c they are so tired! With girls I'm sure the possibilities are endless:) Have fun!

We went in October of 2004 during Halloween. I purchased a Minnie Mouse
costume on clearance, along with the gloves, shoes....the whole works, from
disney.com and paid the extra for wrapping. (Which came as a flat box with tissue paper, ribbon and a personalized card from "Minnie Mouse". When we
checked into the Wilderness Lodge, I snuck around, boxed up the costume and other items and took it to the front desk. I asked a cast member to deliver it to our daughter in our room. The look on her face was priceless (she was 6 at the time). To this day she truly believes Minnie Mouse picked out the outfit for her and had it delivered. It took a bit of planning and since I got everything on clearance it was an inexpensive treat. I even travelled from Europe with it in my suitcase! We're going again in July 2006 and will do the same. It was magical.

When my kids were younger, I bought various Disney Tshirts at the Disney Store before we left (very reasonable prices if you watched the sales), as well as disney fruit snacks, etc. at the store. Each day when the kids woke up, they had a Disney shirt to wear and Disney snacks to add to their fanny packs for the parks. They were very surprised & excitied! It was cheaper than buying Disney tshirts in the Parks too.

Also, we started a tradition of massaging each others feet before bed while we watched TV or planned our next day (you do soooo much walking at Disney). They still talk about that.

Have fun!

I love the idea of a small snack to add to fanny packs! I plan to leave them each Disney dollars in addition to whatever snack/treat I have for any given day. :thumbsup2

I sprinkle glitter over my dd3 and tell her it was tink flying over her. We get her hair done at the barber shop. I also leave gifts each night but each night they are from a different character. I think we are going to pick pearls in epcot this trip. Find PUSH in tomorrowland. Make dessert in Goofy's Candy Shop in Downtown Disney.

We do "Tinkerbell gifts". Each night Tinkerbell leaves the kids a little disney treat. Some are from the $ store, some from the Disney store, etc. THe kids can't wait to wake up in the morning to see what Tinkerbelle has left them.

When we checked in I gave a little her a little note and two gifts and sked her to save them here until my children came in and say it was from tink. The note would say "We are so happy to see you here. Today we are going to blah blah. We are going to blah blah for lunch. You also might meet a few characters. As a little welcome here are two special gifts

Love
Tink

Then Every morning we were their we would have put a little magical note near the bathroom that stated where we were going and also next to the note would be two gifts. One for my DD and DS. They really thought this was real. i even took some glitter and spread it around the little area so it really looked magical.

When we first checked in the look on the kids face were priceless. They woke up everyday to see the note. I even filmed it. It was very cute to see them so excited.

The items i used was

Check in: I had two sets of lanyards. It came in those packs. DD had a princess pack and DS had a stitch pack. (They can be purchased at almost any girft store)

Day 2: I had a charm braclet with a few charms for DD and I had a little stuffed animal for DS

Day 3: I had a mini backpack for them to use. I had just a little card that said her suprise was near the pool. We had a hair wrap scheduled. She loved it.

Day 4: They both got something they really wanted in the stores.

Day 5: They got a big goodbye present with a couple of things . (Ballon, stuffed animal, pins, etc.)

This made the trip so much more magical and i would do it again next trip. :wave2:

For DD (5) tinkerbell visited every night while she slept. I had gotten some pjs, shirts and little trinkets from Disney Deals. She left the items on the dresser for DD and she then did ask to buy things in the park. (Tinkerbell did have a couple of moments of weakness and bought a buzz light year pin traders lanyard clip thingy and a bear for DD) But she loved it and told every one what tinkerbell had brought her!

What do they do with her hair at the barber shop? I though about getting my ds haircut there but never thought about dd.

For boys a hair cut and/or they put a mickey head with gel on them. For little girls a hair cut and/or a little style with gel and/or pixie dust and sprinkles. If you do a seach on barber shop you can see pictures.

Great ideas! You've all inspired me. :cool1: I just wish we had more time to check out things like the barber shop.

If you're staying onsite make sure you book a wake up call on the phone-its a certain naughty blue alien who rings you to get you up! :rotfl2:

My niece is going in June and I am going to make her a fancy scroll with pretty paper and tied with pretty ribbon (using this cool Cinderella font) -- kind of a letter from Cinderella (they also have the Disney script, etc if you wanted to do a letter from Mickey instead). Here's a link I found thanks to people on the Dis boards:

http://i-love-disney.com/font.php

Anyways, I was just going to type up a note saying how excited Cinderella was to see her at the park. Her mom can pack it with her and give it to her at the hotel. I'll do the same thing for my girls when we do our next trip. It would be cute from any character that they love -- just use a cool font and find a clipart of the character!
