My mom has breast cancer and she is having surgery tomorrow. I am not able to go up there until Thursday morning, so tomorrow will be a bit nerve-wracking for me. If you guys have any good thoughts to spare for my mom I would appreciate it. Thanks! :)

All good thoughts and pixie dust are with you and your family.
Please make sure to check back in and let us know how things are.

For the record..I believe the magic on this board works wonders.

Did you not see my previous mention that I have the gayest pixie dust you can find? Here's the name: "CheBettCelinJudEarthBabs Pixie Dust *copyright*
If you want some, it's all yours, it might be relegated to the men of the board, but I'm pretty sure since we're all "family" it works in a unisex way. Let me know. ;) You have my supply at hand. *hugs*

I will of course be praying for her, as well as the rest of the family. Corey used to work in hospital breast care surgical unit and then for a breast care specialist group. If you have some questions, she might could help you with some answers. PM me and I will see if I can get her to respond from Oregon.

Thanks, everyone!

Lindy, thank you! I have researched this thing up, down and backwards. I understand what it is, where it is, how it works, how it grows, and where it might spread. They don't think it has spread anywhere other than possibly the lymph nodes.

My biggest worry is how she will do with the follow-up, whatever that happens to be. Chemo and radiation scare me. Especially chemo. I think she has had enough bad stuff in her life. She deserves to have something be a little bit GOOD for once.

Hey there! Hugs and happy thoughts to you and your mom from me and my mom, the breast cancer survivor.

I won't lie and tell you that it'll be an easy road to recovery, but I will tell you that life is good at the end of the road. Mom's been cancer free for over 2 years now.

I wasn't able to be with my mom for her surgery either. It's SOOO hard. Just be there for her as much as you can be, and tell her how much you love her every chance you get. (Which is good advice to everyone regarding our loved ones. We never know how long any of us will be here, so always say "I love you")

And remember that you've got us to lean on when you need an ear to bend or a shoulder to cry on.

Positivity heading your way.

Best of luck. :)

I am so sorry to read this........Postive attitude, good thoughts and lots of prayers coming her way from me.

Chemo and radiation, I can speak about that, just not the breast cancer part. I think they have come a long way with managing the side effects i.e. nausea and tiredness. With my DH's treatment, he did not lose his hair which I know can sometime be a bit devastating... I truly think that the doctors make the treatment manageable, but you have to be on top of every symptom and make sure you let them know exactly what is going on so they can counteract it with whatever medication they have. Try not to worry too much, keep the lines of communication open with the doctor and make sure they get back to you if you need something... Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the oil so if something is going on and she needs help, get on that phone..

Be brave and if you need to talk, we are here for you and there are many breast cancer survivors on the Dis, they are a wealth of knowledge... Some of them hang out on the coping and compassion board so if you need answers to questions, they are there too.. I believe they also have a thread on the CB.

Thanks!! :goodvibes

Mackey - The ladies on the survivor thread are wonderful! Symptom management could be intersting since Mom prefers to ignore things. That's how she ended up having her very first mammogram in March at age 60. She figures you can ignore things and they will either go away or they will kill you, no action required on your part. Luckily she has revised her attitude somewhat since her diagnosis.

I am hoping to know more today about what her future holds as far as chemo, etc. If I can't get the answers I want then I will call the doctors when I get up there. It's good that I will be in town for 3 business days so if there are calls that need to be made I have a chance of actually reaching someone.

I'll keep you all posted!

I'll keep you and your Mom in my thoughts and prayers. Make sure you get enough rest and take care of yourself during this time. I know from experience that it can take a toll. Please keep us posted.

Mom is in the recovery room.

Her surgery went well. Unfortunately the cancer is in her lymph nodes so she will have to do chemo and radiation. :(

Thanks for all your good wishes!! Please continue to keep Mom in your thoughts as she progresses through this battle.

Try to keep your (and her) thoughts as positive as possible.
I really think mindset has a lot to do with how the body heals.
I'll still think good thought for you and your mom.

Sending happy thoughts and pixie dust to you in hopes of as easy a recovery and chemo as possible!

:thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Darn, I was hoping for better news, but that's ok, at least you know what needs to be done now! We just have to keep her on the right track. ::yes::

Not to mention a few more prayers headed your way.

Thanks!! :)

She is just so bad about advocating for herself. I worry about her feeling sick or in pain when it isn't necessary.

Rob - I am so happy to hear that your mom is doing well now! :goodvibes

I'm sorry the news wasn't better but it's still not terrible - they found it and they're going to treat it so that's the positive side. I'll keep you both in my thoughts.

Thank you! Now let's focus on getting your mom to the same place! My mom was exactly where your mom is now. Cancer in the lymph nodes and all. Chemo is tough, but with people around her that cared about her and for her, she was able to pull through. I think it may have been harder on my dad that on my mom. So it's important now to make sure that ALL of your loved ones have support.

If your mom isn't good about being her own advocate, someone else needs to do it for her. Communication with the doctors about pain, etc is crucial.

And remember that you've got us to lean on when YOU need it!:thumbsup2
