The largest fireworks display in the US took place last night here to celebrate the founding of the city that would become the Steel City. I recorded the display when they showed it on tv last night. As I started to watch it this morning, the opening bars of the music sounded very familiar to me. I had heard this fireworks music before. ILLUMINATIONS!!! They started the display with ILLUMINATIONS!!! Then they went into Golden Dreams from the American Adventure. The music then morphed into music from famous Pittsburghers, Bobby Valli, Perry Como, Henry Mancini, composers from Pittsburgh and all aural things Pittsburgh. The fireworks were shot off of 14 Downtown buildings, barges on our 3 rivers and they had a "waterfall" coming off of one of our bridges. I was thinking about going to see it live, but I probably wouldn't have gotten home until 2 or 3 in the morning if I know the way traffic goes in this town after something like that. I'm glad I recorded it. I'm sure it will pop up on You Tube. It ran for over 30 minutes.

ETA: Like Crystal said they ended with Illuminations and they also had Pirates of the Caribbean. I think I will be leaving this on my DVR for a while.

We went down to the fireworks last night and my DH said isn't that the music from Illuminations. I was yep. Then On Golden Dreams started and I said that's from American Adventure. Towards the end they also had music from Illuminations too. It was a great show.

Zambelli's will have a tough time topping what they did last night, that's for sure.

I really wanted to go, but with 2 young kids I figured it would be too late and a mad house, plus we are 50 miles south of Pittsburgh, my brother lives in Greentree and I think he was going.

I was there last night at Station Square to see the 250th Birthday Celebration, and it was FABULOUS!!! We didn't get home until 3am because of all the PAT Transit traffic, but it was so worth it (we took the T from SHV). Just 2 weeks ago we were in WDW, and got the pleasure of enjoying all that Disney had to offer in fireworks, and I have to say that Pittsburgh topped Disney with this fireworks display. Absolutely amazing!!! Something people will be talking about for a LONG TIME!!! I am so glad someone started this thread to showcase what a wonderful city we have, and how phenomenal Zambelli really is!! Happy Birthday Pittsburgh!!!!!!

It was truly spectacular. We were at Point State Park so our view was probably a little different from yours Suz cute. There were fireworks in the sky all around us there.

Wow, Suz Cute you were out late. We got home around 11:45 and we live about 35 min. southeast of downtown. We parked in my parking garage (where I have a lease) off of Forbes, which was not very close to the activities. It was a bit of a walk, but we had no problems getting out of downtown and the parking was free...well, already paid for. :)

We did the Gateway Clipper dinner cruise, so saw the fireworks from the Majestic. Awesome! I have never, ever seen anything like it!

Of course, DH and I were singing Wishes the whole time...:lmao:

I wanted to go but it was homecoming weekend at my college (ST. Vincent) and it's been 20 years for me - spent the day with friends reliving our years there - this time with husbands and children!! Got home to see the FABULOUS FIREWORKS - Pittsburgh is a great place to live in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
