Pirates Refurb?

I would like to know when the movie add-ins will be removed? As much as I really do like the pirates movies, I never liked the idea of the ride being influenced by them. Not at all! And I am unanimous on that.

Probably never. :sad2:

Seriously...those movies (and there is yet another in the works) are a gold mine for Disney...so of course they're going to hype the movie and the ride.

WDW's It's A Small World now has Disney characters sprinkled throughout and that also seems horrible to me (haven't been to Disneyland lately to know if they have this blasphemy too).

Sadly...the powers that be look not at keeping beloved rides/characters as loved by many, but in how they can boost sales.

For the record, I also hate the redo of the Princesses.

Just call me old fashioned...I'm ok with that label.

Yep, Disneyland's got the same situation. I have mixed feelings on it for IASW, since I feel like its history and place in the park make me a little more opposed to changes. On the other hand, the characters are relatively unobtrusive, there's a few I probably wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't been looking for them. Which is much better than PotC's very noticeable and emphasized changes.

I do believe that change can be useful, that upgrades in technology can allow for enhancing the rider experience while maintaining that classic feeling. But yeah, the movie tie-in changes? Not so much a fan of that. D: I fear for HM.

Updating things vs. keeping them the same is always a balance. Walt Disney was the one that said he did not want Disneyland to become a museum.

Sometimes they ruin a classic - like Tiki Room at WDW's MK. Sometimes they bring something fresh - as IMO they did to POTC and IASW.

I personally dislike the HM Holiday. But I love IASW Holiday.

I am bummed they took out Country Bear Jamboree/Playhouse. I do not care the PeopleMover is gone.

Nemo Subs are better than what they had when I was a kid. The refurbed Space Mtn is incredibly better than before.

In any case, I think there are people that want nothing at DL to ever change - and I think that would be bad for DL. However, change for change's sake is also not a good idea. I think overall they do a good job. Heck, people complain about movie tie-ins and making money. But that is exactly what Walt Disney did when making DL in the first place. Sleeping Beauty's Castle was a huge movie tie-in. Peter Pan, Snow White, Pinnocchio, Alice in Wonderland, etc. Why would Disney not do that?

I agree with everything you said Trey. And I also think that for some of us, a classic is what a ride used to be when we were kids. But for our kids and other future generations, having rides tie in with things they have grown up with and loved is a way to make it a classic for them.

Frankly, I find the POTC movie ties ins to be very subtle and overal the ride is still pretty much "the classic".

And for sure Walt Disney intended all along for his park(s) to be an extension of his movies and shows.

And for what its worth, if there is one ride whose closure might just ruin my trip, POTC would be the one!pirate:

I mostly agree with this...but I *hate* the Davey Jones effect...mostly because that bright projector shines right in your eyes and really yanks you out of the scene. Or it does for me, anyway. I liked it much better when it was just dark and spooky.

I predict it is closing to add a Christmas overlay. How about a new seasonal audio track...?

"Ho ho, ho ho, a Christmas Tree for me...." :santa:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I don't think I could handle being stuck on the ride with that continuously going, it would be like Its a Small World all over again, pirate style!

Honestly, I understand what she is saying. While it could be argued to be over the top to say the trip is ruined by one ride being closed, if it were me and my favorite ride (Splash Mountain) were closed, I'd be very, very disappointed. It might not ruin my trip, but I would have a LOT of regrets about the timing. Also, you have to allow for the fact that her response came immediately after hearing the news. Most likely, she will think it out and come to realize that, as you said, there are lots of other great things to do at Disneyland. If what the previous poster said is true, there's nothing to worry about anyway if the refurb is only for two days! :goodvibes

I understand what is being said here too, if Haunted Mansion is closed for any of my trips I will be so upset!

I'm glad a few people understand what I was getting at when I said "this has the potential to ruin my trip". Sure, it was a bit over-the-top to say that, but my family absolutely LOVES potc.
(and, for the record, I'm a he);)

To us Pirates is Disneyland? To have it closed during a trip would be a huge disappointment.

Of course some of you know our love of PIRATES!! :) pirate:
Glad to see it is only a couple of days
