Pirates on the Dining Plan!! A week of Disney dining! (with lots of pics!)

Welcome! :flower3:
I wanted to try the Cornflake French Toast!! I LOVE French Toast! But I never got around to it, well, next time ........... we have 14 nights of DDP booked in August/September. So Wolfi, watch out, here we come again! ;)

I just started my May 2009 Pre-Dining Report (link is in my sig) and intend on taking lots of pics this time; I will definitely get one of the Cornflake French Toast! To me, it is one of the best things at Disney!

Dinner at Spoodles

After our shopping spree we chilled out for a very short while at the resort, before we got changed and headed over to the Boardwalk for our dinner at Spoodles.

IMG_0165.jpg

There were lots of people strolling the Boardwalk and when we entered Spoodles, right on time, the waiting area was FULL! We signed in, were handed a buzzer and went to check out the sweet shop next door, but the buzzer went off right after we had entered the sweet shop. We got quite a few looks when we handed back our buzzer and went to be seated. :rolleyes1
We were seated at a table for two and the first thing that caught our eyes was this "Hidden Mickey" right above the open kitchen.

IMG_0169.jpg

We started out telling our server that we were on the DDP AND that we intended to use our DDE/TIW card on any extras. It was okay with her and so we ordered two Diet Cokes and the Sangria, I had heard so much about on these boards! Thanks Nicki!!

IMG_0167.jpg

She brought out the Cokes and the Focaccia bread

IMG_0166.jpg

and some olive oil with Tapanade in it. The bread was still warm and soaked up the oil nicely. We had to use our knifes to get some of the Tapanade onto the bread.

IMG_0171.jpg

Shortly after the bread the Sangria arrived! Yummy, yummy, yummy! There were lots of fresh citrus fruit in it and it was REALLY nice!

IMG_0174.jpg

Our little guy LOVED it as well :lmao:

IMG_0176.jpg

We ordered a starter, the Garlic Shrimp - with Preserved Lemon and Parsley. They were really nice, with lots of garlic and citrus and just the right amount of parsley. The shrimps were nice and plump and really juicy too! Loved it!

IMG_0180.jpg

Tom had the Oak-fired Steak Kabobs - with Multigrain Pilaf, Balsamic Red Onions and Harissa. We were SO surprised to find the Kabobs really being done medium, they were so tender!! The sauce was really spicy, but we love spicy food, so that was okay with us. (The server had mentioned before that it was quite spicy.) We were also surprised to find the Pilaf quite well flavoured and nice. Tom said he would order that dish again :thumbsup2

IMG_0178.jpg

I had the Wood-grilled Pork Tenderloin - with Homemade Gnocchi, Spinach, Mushrooms, Onions, and Red Wine Sauce.
Hm, I see a habit of ordering Tenderloin, :lmao:
I had ordered the Tenderloin slightly pink in the middle and that is the way it came out! Warmed through, but still moist and tender. It was nicely seasoned and the Gnocchi (LOVE them) were really nice and homemade. Everything went VERY well together and needless to say we polished off everything.

IMG_0184.jpg

IMG_0188.jpg

Since there is dessert included in the DDP we needed to try some. Not that we had not tried some desserts even if they had not been incluced. :rotfl2:
Tom chose the Chocolate Espresso Cake with whipped cream. It was a dense and chewy kind of cake. It tasted wonderful, but it WAS rich! I stole a bite (or two) and liked it a lot!

IMG_0182.jpg

Our server had recommended the Chocolate Cherry Semi-Freddo - with cherry compote and this is what I chose. Oh my god - dessert heaven! That was SO good. I just hope it will still be on the menu in September when we go again. I am not a big fan of photos of half eaten food, but I had to take a photo, so you all could see what is inside this beauty!

IMG_0189.jpg

There is frozen white chocolate mousse and dark chocolate mousse, covered in meringue and baked. The meringue (guess it was italian meringue) was still guey and moist on the inside and everything went so well with the cherries. SO good! I was full before it came out, but I DID finish it

We had originally planned to drive over to DHS for EMH, but when we left the restaurant it had become really chilly outside and we were already tired again, so we decided to call it a day and go back to the resort.

Hm, I think I need to be totally honest with you, so I have to confess that we didn't go home right away. We went to Kissimmee and checked out a few of the cheap stores there (but buying nothing). Tom picked up a few cigars before we headed for the Krispy Kreme in Kissimmee!
Their "hot now" sign was on and we pigged out and got a dozen glazed doughnuts. Can you imagine that we both had two of them each right outside the shop, sitting in our car?
We saved the rest for the next day! :rolleyes1 :scared:

DDP:
Spoodles: $ 68,70
Paid for DDP $ 560
Left $ 411,30 - $ 68,70 = $ 342,60

Next up:
Krispy Kreme for breakfast, Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch, Joy of Tea Stand in Epcot, Ohana's for dinner

Oh my! Spoodles looks simply divine! Is it wrong that I am most excited about the foccacia bread and chocolate cake? :rotfl: It seems like a simple thing but having your meat cooked exactly the way you like it cannot be underestimated! I think this just about made up my mind. I MUST try Spoodles on my next visit! ::yes::

I just signed up for your PTR and I cannot wait for your pics of Cornflake French Toast and other yummy food! :goodvibes

I NEVER thought of trying Spoodles, but after reading so many great reviews on the DIS we just had to give it a try ourselves and it certainly did NOT disappoint! It is already on my list of restaurants for our Aug/September trip! :cloud9:

Great photos and we love the 'exposure' shot of that dessert, we must see the inside to fully appreciate it, yes? ;) :cloud9:

...signing up for Mission Cornflake French Toast... :lmao:

Oh that Spoodles dessert looks like pure heaven!!:lovestruc

Thank you for the wonderful descriptions.

Thanks for posting the Spoodles pics, it's one of our favorite places. That dessert looks amazing!!!!

yay for Spoodles! We tried it last trip and really enjoyed it, but I don't remember that Cherry Chocolate Smifredo! that looks AMAZING...i love choc/cherries this review is making me hungry again :lmao:

Loving your trip report! Thanks so much for doing it and being so specific! I have a question though. Was the tea you got from The Wave included on the DP? We'll be there at the end of the month and I am an avid tea drinker.

Wowza! That chocolate cherry semifreddo looks so incredible! :cloud9: I LOVE Baked Alaska, and no place seems to do this anymore...:confused3 I guess it is too retro, or labor intensive. Anyway, this one looks kind of like a variation on that, yum, yum.

Spoodles looks great! When I was planning my last trip one of the terrific IPO women for WL/POLY told me to eat there--her husband was the chef. She obviously had a high opinion of it ;) , we tried to fit it in, but really we just didn't have time. We will need to try it someday. :thumbsup2

WPE breakfast looked fantastic too...:goodvibes

I'm glad you enjoyed Spoodles, it's one of my favorite restaurants at WDW. Now you have me wanting some sangria and their mediterraen dips so bad. :goodvibes

Yeah, that "exposure" shot was definitely necessary :goodvibes it really was a nice surprise once I got "inside"!

Spoodles - :thumbsup2

It definitely has become a "go-back" place! We also want to try it for breakfast - their food looks yummy! :)

What can you do wrong with chocolate and cherries :) and that dessert was really out of this world. I never thought of ordering it, but the way the server recommended it made me WANT it!

Thanks for reading! :flower3: Actually I am not sure about the tea being included in the DDP. We did have Diet Cokes with our meal and used the DDE/TIW card for any extras.
But .... in many places we got "special drinks" on the DDP and in some places, like LeCellier and Maya Grill our friend Joe was even allowed to switch from Iced Tea to coffee! It never hurts to ask.

Hey, guess what ....... we had such a laugh reading your comment - here's why. When the Semifredo came out and I started eating MY comment was that it WAS like a Baked Alaska! And it was really yum, yum!!
I picked Spoodles after reading some reviews here on the DIS and it was such a pleasant surprise. We will definitely go back in September!

I'm glad you enjoyed Spoodles, it's one of my favorite restaurants at WDW. Now you have me wanting some sangria and their mediterraen dips so bad. :goodvibes

Mmmhhhh, Sangria :goodvibes ! Oh, and don't remind me of those mediterranian dips - we saw those brought out and I was like .... I want those next time :lmao:

I have never had the desire to go to Spoodles, mostly cause I wasn't sure how DD would ever like it, but that looks wonderful. When we get out of character dinner mode, that is one place to try!

What is Sangria? I hear alot of people love it, but I'm not sure what it is, and so afraid to ever order it.

As I mentioned before, we often went past Spoodles as well, but never felt tempted to have a meal there. Then reading some reviews on the DIS, I got intrigued, LOL! Now I am hooked :rotfl2:

Sangria, a drink from Spain - A blend of red wine, brandy, triple sec, orange juice, and fresh citrus fruit - so good! :cloud9:

Awesome reviews! I also just went back to look at your other dining reviews and they were awesome!

PS I've actually visited Vienna and was able to practice my German (which I haven't used in a looooong time so I really don't remember anything :( ) I do remember buying a ton of the real Mozartkugeln which were AMAZING!

Man, you have me kicking myself for deciding to skip Spoodles this year.

Sangria, a drink from Spain - A blend of red wine, brandy, triple sec, orange juice, and fresh citrus fruit - so good! :cloud9:

Is it fruity tasting? I don't like wine usually, but if it taste fruity, I would like it.

IMG_0174.jpg

Our little guy LOVED it as well :lmao:

I love Sangria - I really need to go try Spoodles, too, so we can have a pitcher. I'm just afraid I may act like Mickey did and end up with my head in the pitcher. :rolleyes1

Thank you very much for posting a picture of the inside of this and explaining what it is, because I had NO idea what a Freddo was, let alone a Semi-Freddo! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We saved the rest for the next day! :rolleyes1 :scared:

Well, of course you ate some of them in the car! What good is stopping when you see the "hot now" sign if you don't pig out on a few while they're still warm? :cool1:

Now, picture this - I used to live one block from a Krispy Kreme store, where I had to drive home past the "hot now" sign almost every day! :scared1: I could even smell them from my front porch! Try to imagine attempting to resist that temptation on a daily basis. :faint:

Is it fruity tasting? I don't like wine usually, but if it taste fruity, I would like it.

Yes it usually has a sweeter/fruitier taste than red wine. I'm not a fan of red wine, I tend to gravitate towards the sweeter white wines, and I love the Sangria at Spoodles!

Krispy Kreme for breakfast, Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch

We woke up to another beautiful day and blue skies!

IMG_0191.jpg

This was such a HUGE change to the weather we had left behind in Austria - lots of snow and cold - yuck!
Tom had tried the coffee the first morning and it turned out yuck - thin and tasteless, so this morning he used two of the coffee sachets and with the addition of lots of creamer and sugar it turned out somewhat drinkable (needed some Diet Coke as well to "wash the coffee down" :lmao: Disney coffee is NOT something to write home about!!)

IMG_0190.jpg

We had some of the leftover Krispy Kreme doughnuts for breakfast and they were still yummy! These are just SO good!

After our breakfast we decided to go to Animal Kingdom to do Everest. There were lots of people in the park, so we picked up a FP for Everest and got in line. Love that ride! Mickey enjoyed it too!

IMG_0209.jpg

We enjoyed our morning there and by 11 we headed out of the park to the tram to the parking lot because we needed to go to the GF for lunch.
Lots of people were still rushing into the park - NO one was leaving, so this was our private tram!

IMG_0220.jpg

IMG_0221.jpg

We drove to the Grand Floridian, had the car parked and went to find the Grand Floridian Cafe. We are not too familiar with the GF, so it took a few minutes until we had found it.
The servers were VERY nice and we ordered our Diet Cokes and some "other drinks" as well. Here's to MickeyNicki!!!

IMG_0223.jpg

I had the Raspberry Colada, blend of creamy colada, rum and pureed raspberries. No comment!!

IMG_0224.jpg

Tom had the Floridian Sunshine, Peach Schnapps, Chambord, Vodka, splash of orange juice & cranberry juice - very nice, but too boozy for me!

IMG_0226.jpg

Since we had had a shrimp starter the day before we decided to get the Crab Cakes - Pan-seared with Mango Relish! They were just so good. Crisp on the outside and moist on the inside, lots of yummy crab. I do not like Mango, but the Mango Relish was delish!!! There was NOTHING left on the plate!!

IMG_0230.jpg

IMG_0232.jpg

Tom had the Roast Beef Sandwich - Balsamic Onions, Pesto Mayonnaise, Arugula Salad, and Tomatoes served on Focaccia with Home Made Chips. The Sandwich was HUGE and very tasty! The Pesto Mayo was awesome and the homemade chips - well, I could live off them alone. ;)

IMG_0233.jpg

IMG_0228.jpg

IMG_0229.jpg

I had the Grand Floridian Burger - Angus Chuck Burger, Lobster, Asparagus and Horseradish-Chive Hollandaise served with Tomato Salad. I had heard about it on the DIS, where else and HAD TO try it!!
It was as good as it looked! The burger was tender and cooked medium - oh my god was it good! And the lobster was juicy and soft, such a difference to the one we had had the year before at Narcoossee's. The hollandaise did take away a bit of the lobster taste, but it worked well together. I love asparagus, so no complaints there, the two slices of tomato (salad, LOL) were a bit on the watery side, but the dressing was very nice. I would definitely order it again! The burger, not the salad! ;)

IMG_0234.jpg

We had been encouraged to wear buttons, so we both wore the "I'm celebrating" buttons and upon entering the restaurant we had been asked WHAT we were celebrating - well, it was my birthday trip. So the candle ended up on my cake. It was the Key Lime Pie - Chocolate Crust topped with Carmelized Sugar. Yummy! Just the right tartness for lime and the chocolate crust complimented it nicely.

IMG_0236.jpg

Tom had the Chocolate-Hazelnut Mousse Cake - topped with more Chocolate, which was really good, but a bit on the rich side! He was not able to finish it!

After our lunch we had a look around the resort and took this photo from one of the balconies.

IMG_0240.jpg

We then rode the Monorail to the TTC and went on to Epcot.

IMG_0255.jpg

DDP:
Grand Floridian Cafe: $ 45,90
Paid for DDP $ 560
Left $ 342,60 - $ 45,90 = $ 296,70

Next up: Joy of Tea Stand in Epcot, Ohana's for dinner
