I was at Disneyland just this last Saturday and I went to "The Gallery" to look at the POTC 2 props and a CM informed me that POTC 4 & 5 are being considered in the works. And there could be possibly be 6 and 7.

I knew Johnny loved playing Jack Sparrow, but I'm wondering if this is true or just a rumor?

Anyone know?

I heard the rumor of the 4th one, but haven't heard anything about a 5, 6, and 7.

After 4 I think they are beating a dead horse. I think the actors would really like to go on and have more opportunities.

Depp said he would be willing to play Sparrow for as long as the scripts are good and it makes sense to continue the series and character...

I could do 5, 6, & 7 but tey would have to be the same quality.. Hey how many Bond movies are there?

Yeah, I heard about the 4th movie on G4's The Feed... I doubt it will do any good to non-"OMG, JOHNNY DEPP IS SO HOT!!!!!!! *spaz*" people.

This rumor probably just stems from a Johnny Depp quote wherein he said that he would be willing to play this character in Pirates 7. His quote was just saying how much he loves the character. Of course, based on that, the rumor mill begings a-grinding. I doubt there is a real plans at this point. But you can bet that if Pirates 3 does as well as this one, it won't stop at 3.

2 things...

1. I think you are correctly as to where this came from. I think a conclusion was drawn here with little basis in fact.

2. As far as it not stopping at #3. I think it is important to note that this would not be Disney's call. At least not how I understand the workings of these rights

Maybe. But anyone would keep making movies that rake in half a billion at the box office, and leads to numerous tie-ins (toys, books, etc).

At first I thought 3 could be enough of the Pirate espisodes, but..

If Johnny keeps on signing those Pirates contracts, I'll still pay to see him.

And if Star Wars can make six episodes, there is a chance Pirates can still do the 7th.

I guess we have to wait and see.

Yeah, maybe in 5 6 and 7, Disney might actually be allowed to make a dime off of them instead of writing checks to Bruckheimer and Depp.

I would have no problem with a bond like serialization, but that's not really the direction they went with in 2 and 3, They've written themselves into a corner on that.

True enough. But Bruckheimer and Verbinski seem to be a bit more...protective perhaps...of their intellectual property. We all agree that Disney would keep making them until the cows come home, but I am not so sure that true of the others who wield more influence over the film aspect of this franchise. Now perhaps Disney can turn this into animation or a tv show, yadda, yadda, yadda, but not the films. At least not how I understand the details of the deal here.

I think this would only depend on the success of 3. I think they will keep going as long as there is the popularity and they continue to be money magnets.
