Pirates of the Caribbean 3: Can someone explain something to me?

We went to the midnight showing and now I think I must see it again. Obviously it was way to far past my bedtime because I didn't catch half the clues that have been pointed out here.:lmao:

FWIW, Both Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom have both stated they show no interest in doing another Pirates movie. Each wants to move on to other things before they get type casted (since they are both so young). I believe the story with the 2 of them is done.

I must be the only weirdo who thought Jack Davenport managed to demonstrate more chemistry with Knightley in his few scenes with her than Bloom did in the whole film. I was hoping against hope Elizabeth and Norrington would end up together. I've personally seen enought of Elizabeth and Will but I sure hope to see more Pirates!

Back to the original question, I agree with you Elaine, I too thought the ending made it clear that Will was free.

Oh wow Judi I thought Will and Elizabeth had huge chemistry. I'm also blinded by Orlando Bloom I think but I loved them together. Didn't find Norrigton attractive at all. I actually wish somehow Norrington could have wound up the captain of the Dutchman.

Okay, here's my thinking: There a $$$ reason behind why it was cut. IF there is a 4th movie and IF Orlando and Kiera agree to be in it, then the 4th movie will somehow involve them breaking the curse on Will in addition to the search for the Fountain of Youth. If indeed this is the end of their story, then it will be OFFICIALLY released that Will is indeed free as the writers intended.

Yup, you are blind allright if you don't think Norrington is attractive. :faint:

I think Orlando Bloom is a cutie, but I don't think he is much of an actor, sorry. I did like him in Elizabethtown though, I prefer him in that sort of role. He's wooden as Will Turner and not terribly charismatic. I know, I'm in the minority! :p

I agree with you. :duck:

I think both demonstrated chemistry with each other equally. I truly am not a fan of Kiera Knightly though so this clouds my view of the character greatly. I think Jack's character in the first movie was too stiff with her and had absolutely zero chemistry. I think they loosened him up and showed compassion in general in the last. The 2nd there was none, but there was none meant to be IMO.

With Will, he has always had this "tourmented lover" type of roll with her. But every time they paused to kiss... I went WOW! I admit though, I was a bit turned off by Elizabeth kissing James anyway. It seemed like she was untrue to Will even though things between them were unspoken. It felt out of place for me, so I didn't get drawn into it at all.

Jack Davenport is a cutie to me (not hot, but definitely good looking) and brilliant in everything I have seen him in. Very good sense of comedic timing as well IMO.

Of course these are my views on the characters.

I do believe that Orlando Bloom will go further if he gets out of the action rolls. While he did far better acting in this one, his character doesn't allow for a lot of depth. Jack's character was far more "involved". I do believe that Elizabethtown and Haven were awesome movies for showing off what Orlando can do. The characters in those definitely have depth to them that Will Turner is lacking. Though I will say there was a bit more to Will this last movie and the acting was much improved.

So I can somewhat agree with you there, Judi. Then again I have watched every movie Orlando has been in save Calcium Kid (haven't gotten my hands on more than clips of it) and he truly is a clever man and good actor if you give him a chance in the right roles.

The green flash was supposed to make it very clear he was free but with the cut scene it didn't make it crystal clear. If you will remember the Flying Dutchman appeared time and time again in Dead Man's Chest and there was never a green flash. There was also no green flash when it appeared with Davey Jones in AWE.

So yes, he's free for good. As for the new captain that's kind of left out there for us to guess. Oh and also when Will returns he is NOT at the helm of the boat. He is NOT captaining which is another hint.

Not sure I totally agree with this. How do you explain the green flash when (after they're beach tryst) Will leaves. As she's standing there on the beach watching him leave, there's a green flash and the Flying Dutchman has vanished. I noticed this on my second viewing - trying to answer all of my questions.

Based on what was shown to us in the theater, my feeling is that Will was returning for his once every 10 year visit.

I may feel different after watching the DVD with the uncut scenes.

I don't care for Keira that much either in this film because I SHOULD BE WITH ORLI!!!!!! ROTFLOL!!!!!

Patty the green light was his soul leaving this world. He was going to the underworld to carry the souls to the other side. When the green light flashed on re-entry it meant his soul was released back into this world.

Again everything I'm saying has come from reading the writers sight linked above. We can all have a zillion different theorys but the way the actual writers meant the movie to go is that Will was released forever.

Tami I like your thinking but don't see Keira and Orlando coming back. I wish wish wish but I don't see it. I think we may have Jack and Barbosa back and maybe the young Will Turner as a teenager but no Orli or Keira.

That doesn't make sense... the green light was stated for when a soul RETURNS in the movie. I haven't read all their links, but that doesn't make sense to me.

I always assumed it was Calypso brining Davy Jones back. Otherwise it could point either way IMO.

however him returning at sunset is the biggest key to me.

Okay now I'm confused. What makes you think she brought Davey Jones back? I could definitely be wrong in my remembering what was written as I haven't read it in a while. I never got the feeling Davey Jones came back, I thought he was lost to the sea when he fell into the Malstrom.

It was the only person I could think of that in the end Calypso would want to love. Unless it was a continuity goof, *someone* had to come back. It very well could be an issue in continuity. Never once did they say the green was for coming and going. It was only for when a soul came back.

I realize they never said for sure about Will leaving the ship after the 10 years for good, but they gave enough indications that would match up that he was freed from it (sunset and green flash for starters)

I said it was a speculation on Davy Jones... Calypso became herself again and could do as she wished with the sea. I can't say it is right, but just a thought. I dont know who else would be worth bringing back from the dead that Calypso would be willing to go after... that's all.

...coming, going....green lights.....hearts cut out.....returning to to sea....BLECHH!!! I HATED THE ENDING........

okay, rant over.......

....it just seems so inconsistent to me how in the beginning of the first POTC, Will Turner was so naive and dead-set against any pirates and their wrongdoings, yet, by the end of the third POTC, he seemed almost [for lack of a better word] evil, or unscrupulous.........but that's just ME.....to top it off, I didn't stay for the part after the credits ran......
