Can someone explain this ride? (I didn't even realize it's a boat ride until i saw the other thread). Wil it interest a 9 year old boy AND a 5 year old girl?

Also, would it still be of interest if we have never seen the movie? My DS really isn't into pirates.

The inspiration for the Movies came from the Ride. They have since added some things from the movies to the ride. This to me is a must do classic! It is one of the ride that Walt Disney had a hand in creating.

The WDW version is a truncated version of what is at DLR (I'm told) and DLP (having been there).

Its a boat dark ride. There are a few parts that might be freighting to little kids, skeleton guiding a derelict ship in a thunderstorm comes to mind. And a few scenes that may disturb parents, the mermaid skeleton chained on the beach.

There is a short dark drop between two scenes.

Having seen the movies does help since show elements have been updated to the movies. Blackbeards warning, the mermaid section, and various appearances of capt jack.

All of that said its a classic attraction and even the short version at WDW was copied from an attraction that Walt designed. You should not miss it.

We have ridden it all nine of our trips, from the time my kids were 3 and 15 months old, and they never seemed bothered by it. The first trip, I wasn't sure what DS3 would do, so I pointed out silly things, we looked for the dog, etc.

There is a very short drop near the beginning, we always told the boys it was a 'boat slide'.

We ride it multiple times every visit. PotC and HM are our favorites. Must do!

I bet I've ridden Pirates at least 20 times and have never noticed those things :confused3

The skeleton in the storm is an iconic image from PotC its the first scene to the right. It's the storm effect that I've seen bother some kids.

The mermaid chained is the old beach scene with the snappy crabs to the left side of the boat near the open just past Blackbeards warning.

Not sure how you could have missed either, they are both right at the beginning and pretty much the only thing to look at. (The mermaid scene is newish since the 4th movie so if you've not been since it opened you've not seen it)

My girls have never seen the movies but they still love this ride. In fact, it's one of their favorite rides and has been for the last few years. They're 7 and 11 now. My daughter fell in love with this ride when she was 5.

The movie came 30 years after the attraction. That is a common misconception that this is a ride based on the movie when in fact, it is the other way around. The ride inspired the movie.

Yes :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I love that about it! A ride so good it inspired a blockbusting movie series!!

How could it not be a blockbuster? With other classic attractions to movies like Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, Mission to Mars and No list is complete with out Country Bears.

Not sure what your point is. Those did fail but they had nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean. The story line was unique and only used a few of the attraction features to link it to the movie. Other then the song and the jail scene, it wasn't connected at all, except for the Pirates theme. The others were way to much like the attraction to be blockbusters or even interesting for that matter. And only one had Johnny Depp.

I was just being humorous, most people don't even know those movies exist (much less them all on DVD.)

If there was any point it's a good/great attraction doesn't magically make a great movie (or even a good movie.)

PoC is a classic WDW ride.....and must do for us each and every trip. One of my kids favorite non-thrill type ride. (ages 8 & 10). It entertained countless kids and adults before the movies were ever imagined. We rode it several times on our recent trip. As a side note, we only own one of the PoC movies and kids showed no interest in watching it until our drive home from the most recent trip.

OP, I noticed that you have asked similar questions about several of the rides at WDW. Did you know that you can find videos of virtually every attraction at WDW on You Tube? You might want to check there first- watching a video will likely give you a much better idea than anything we can write.

Since this is obviously your first visit, you might also want to invest in a good guide book. They all include sections with very good attraction descriptions.

Thanks Minnie Mum. I apologized on the other thread for posting twice. As mentioned, I had snuck in a post at work (i.e. when I shouldn't have been on the site) and thus, hadn't checked my notes that I already had researched this one. There are lots of rides at Disney and I had forgotten this one.

As for YouTube, I do watch the videos for some. But I find them dark and hard to tell what's going on. So I find the best way is to ask personally from those that have been on them before, and that's often the best way to get an idea. I thought that was what this site was for and didn't think that was a problem.

First time we went on this ride was back in 1981 () WAY before the movie came out....I still remember it and it was one of my favourites. We were 7 when we went to WDW. It has changed a little (with the addition of Jack Sparrow) but I think your kids will enjoy it.
