Pirates night - do people dress up?

I have read a few threads that they have replaced the tropical night with Pirates of the Caribbean. Since the specialty Halloween shops are open right now, I want to buy dd a pirate outfit to wear if it is a popular night that others dress up. Those that have been to the new evening on the Magic, should I do this?

kids SHOULD dress up but adults should accessorize. No weapons, replica, fake, etc..will be allowed.

I was told that CMs would be dressed as pirates. If you, as an adult, dressed like a pirate, you might be confused with a CM. It's not fun being mistaken as a CM instead of the guest you are.

edit
However it looks like I will be the one left out of the fun if not being dressed too. Go for it.

Having just come off the Sept 18th cruise, this is very fresh in my mind. Yes, mostly the children were dressed up, and some adults.

Even the staff that was dressed up, were very well done, just the outfits, and mustaches, so on.

Just have to add, that this was my favorite night. Helpful hint, bring your own glo-toys for the kids. Never thought of this, and well, everyone had one, and the spinning toys, were 13.14 each..

If you enjoy this, I would go for it and dress up. Any other questions, i could get my dh to post some pics, and I am a no brainer with that.

DH will be dressed like a priate for our 11/13 cruise! He is very excited! when I told him about the change, the first thing out of his mouth was asking if he could dress up.
we found a pattern from simplicity, and my friend is sewing it for him.
;) (he is a little bummed that he won't have a sword or gun.... but he will get over it!!) He was trying to figure out how to get a peg leg... but the fact that he has a real leg keeps getting in the way.

I was also on the 9/18 cruise, and I have to echo what mommasita said. A lot of the kids were dressed up. You really should let your kids go for it, it looked like a lot of fun.

If you don't come with pirate clothes, don't worry, Mickey's Mates sells a Captain Hook costume, along with pirate hats, swords, etc. You can also get the pirate Goofy hat (which we got for our kids) or the Pirate Mickey hat.

The new simplicity pattern is a historically correct pattern which is awesome. The coat fits well (don't forget the pleats in the back) and the pants are comfortable. Not to mention fun trying to see them button all the buttons. You can get old brass buttons on Ebay for pennies.

Another hint for the adults, go to thrift shops. Old felt hats with the wire rim cut off make great period hats. Turn up the sides to create a tri-corn and stich in place with a few cross stitches. Use a little hot glue to glue a decorative trim on the rim.

Okay, I'm getting a little too excited about this now.

So, no plastic swords allowed? or yes, plastic swords allowed? I need to know what I should and shouldn't buy at the Halloween clearance sales!:teeth:

I couldn't get a straight answer on that from DCL guest services, but that was during all the hurricanes so I don't think the question was given priority.

However, I highly suspect that Disney will have their "plastic pirate pack" for sale on board. This consists of a plastic eye patch, plastic cutlass and plastic hook. At the parks, this costs less than $20.

I do know that no originals or replicas will be allowed. That's a given. On the plastic swords sold at Halloween stores, some do have metal in them and may cause your luggage to be searched.

How about the "hook" hands? Are they considered a no-no?

There is less likely to be metal in the plastic hook hand and can be easily packed. It's also easy to carry around while you are dancing and partying.

Anyone still wear their Carribean garb? We all bought floral shirts and dresses when it was Tropical night.

I found a some great caribbean floral shirts with long skirts at Mervyns (for those on the west coast). Jimmy Buffett is a patron saint pirate and he wears caribbean florals. Key West, here I come.

We dressed up on the AUG 28 cruise. My teen daughter and her friends wore hats, stockings and off the shoulder shirts and big hoops earrings. We bought the hats and eye patches a head of time. She did were one of those plastic hand hooks too. She looked cute as a pirate. They give out bandanas at dinner as well.

Okay...what if folks aren't dressed up for the pirate night? Some of you have said some people still wear the tropical look, but from personal observation, what did you see?

DS is 12 so I'm not sure he's still interested in dressing up and I'm not sure if I can convince DH. So, did you see most older kids and adults dressed as pirates? Aaaarrr matey! Maybe less than half dressed in the tropical attire? Aloha! Or just dressed in nice normal clothes? If the "normal" look what? The dockers and polo or button down shirt? And what about the ladies?

Okay...I know lots of questions and I'm sorry. It's just that like many others I've already arranged for the tropical clothing and don't want to stand out like a pineapple walking the plank.

Thanks for all of your help with this one!

Do You think it would be ok to just wear the tropical clothes to the night you are in Parrot Cay as long as you are not there on formal night? I have tropical garb from cruises past that I would like the kids to wear but I really like the pirate idea and am thinking of doing that also.

My Husband and I are on the Magic Halloween Cruise and are dressing as Pirate'spirate: pirate: We will also wear our pirate costume's to Dinner on Pirate night.

I am still planning on us wearing the tropical stuff that night...whatever it will be called. We have the glow braclettes ready for the kids and can toss their prirate hats in the luggage if they feel like wearing them with it all. I would rather be dressed in tropical than just a regular dinner dress for the deck party. It all seems festive to me.

We always loved tropical night. Is this Pirate theme on the Western and Eastern??
Seems like a hard theme for adults to dress up for.

I sure hope so, since I spent a bundle on tropical clothes for it!
