Hi to everyone, question about pirate night costumes. My family purchased our own costumes including plastic swords are the swords allowed? Thanks

Given that they are allowed, I would guess either there is no issue with carry-on or people are putting them in their checked bags.

I just double-checked. Officially, the policy is "no toy weapons." That said, there were a bloody lot of plastic swords on the Fantasy in March.

My DS5 brought his for pirate night. He got it from his pirate adventure at the GF hotel. It was in our suitcase not in our carry on or on our person when we boarded.

I always thought the “toy weapon” rule was so someone didn’t mistake a toy gun for a real one.

They actually changed the terminology. It used to be "realistic toy weapon," and it's now "toy weapon."

Given what a menace all the kids with light sabers are, a few plastic swords shouldn't be an issue, but.

I have packed by plastic sword in my check-in bag many times without trouble...my parrot, too...and he doesn't like it.

I always thought they had them listed as prohibited, not because they didn't want them on the ship, but because they wanted people to buy the ones they sell on the ship.

We packed a light saber and a plastic sword in our checked luggage. No problems at all.

We decided not to risk it at the last minute and bought one of their swords. But there are many anecdotes from people who brought them on with no trouble. And there were definitely people at pirate night whose swords were not bought on ship.

The policy actually reads no "Toy guns or other replicas of firearms and weapons." A replica is by definition a lifelike, exact or near-exact copy of a real weapon, so toy swords that are obviously toys would be permitted, in my view (though no toy guns of any kind are allowed). That said, I would not bring them personally as they seem to invite a lot of play fighting from other kids that can turn ugly. We saw a small child (5-6) stabbed in the eye (I hope by accident) by another child (around 8-10 range) during a play battle in the room at the Jack Sparrow meet and greet. Screams and tears all around; cast members intervened--not a magical vacation for them.
