Pirate night is lame now

Wow, I sure hope your disappointment was expressed on the feedback form. We leave in 12 days for the Dream 9/10 4 night cruise. I’m still not happy with the elimination of the single rider jetskis on castaway cay. They now only have double rentals so if you’re riding single you have to pay the double price to rent a double.... needless to say, my husband didn’t book it

This is my husband's complaint about our upcoming Oct cruise, too. He really wanted to do the jetski's this time (nope, not me, not getting on one) so he's peeved they are only double riders and yeah, he didn't book one because it's twice the price. LAME!

As a follow up to my post above, here is the Navigator for the August 11 sailing of the Fantasy. Fireworks were definitely between dinner shows

I like that better! (7:30pm Fireworks)
We don’t like how long they make it take for dinner and would definitely be at that fireworks show. We eat dinner quick and are out of there so no issue being out in time for the fireworks. Also late seating can see it too before they go to dinner. Win Win!

The ship can only carry X amount of fireworks onboard. The show as it is isn't all that long. Splitting it in two would make 2 really short shows.

The Magic does fireworks both nights when they do MDAS, so there'd be room for two fireworks shows as long as it isn't MDAS.

I booked Palo on pirate night for our November cruise. Thinking we would skip the MDR but still see fireworks. So that won’t happen now.

Wonder how many others do the same. And the other thing is you can’t see if there are other open times for Palo if you already have one booked right?

On the Palo reservations - yes, you have to cancel your reservation to see what available times there are.

One thing that I noticed on the navigator was that this was the same night as Christopher Robin premiered (if I'm reading it right). Since that was the nightly show and it takes longer than 60 minutes, they may have just moved things around for this particular sailing to accommodate both the Movie Premier and the Pirate night show/fireworks.

Have people encountered it on the other ships/dates also?

Christopher Robin premiered the week before on August 3. I would love to know if the cruise after us had fireworks at 7:30. When i inquired, the CD seemed to think this was the schedule for the time being as the sun was setting earlier.

Hmmmm.....I wonder if this is a permanent change.....Currently, for my cruise in November on the Dream, my kids have appointments scheduled to turn into pirates at the BBB on pirate night. But their appointment times are 7:30 and 8:00, so we would miss the fireworks and show while they are turning into pirates :rotfl2:

It was a week after the premiere and we went to the movie that night and ran up the stairs after and there was nowhere left. We were late for our second seating dinner.

It doesn’t work this way.

Btw, as someone who has pyrotechnics experience, the shells they use are not very big (small audience, close distance, they don’t have to be) so there is plenty of room. I’d be 100% shocked if they aren’t carrying 20-30 shows worth at any given time. (At the close range and small viewing area needed you can probably get bigger class C shells at a gas station in the Carolinas than they use)

In December 17 on board the Wonder, the pirate deck party was at 7:45. We had time to watch Coco at 5:30, then hightail it up to the party and find a place to stand, then hightail it to dinner. It was a little rushed, but fine.

No pirate buffet, though.

Update: I looked into it right after making my post and found out some cool stuff.

1. DCL fireworks charges are actually less powerful than backyard mortars you buy at the local fireworks shop.
2. DCL launches their fireworks using air and not explosives (a system Disney designed themselves)
3. Disney makes their own fireworks, so they make them in batches and have many shows worth on board at any given time.
4. DCL fireworks are made to be 100% biodegradable and neutral to sea life.

A couple other interesting things I learned: I always wondered why it wasn’t done on a sea day. Turns out they have a distance from land/Port they want to be within in case of a problem. They also have to notify all area sea traffic before and afterwards so they don’t mistake them as distress flares.

I guess regardless of if it was a premier or not, in both of the situations in this thread where they had the alternate times for the pirate party, there was a movie playing instead of a stage show, is that correct? So if the movie was playing from 8pm to 10:15pm, there is no time for the pirate party and fireworks afterwards. But if it was the regular 60 minute stage show, there is time to have the fireworks later. So it looks like they tried to squeeze it (unsuccessfully) between the dinners/movies when they had the movie showing on the same night.

I just hope it was a temporary situation because I agree that really takes away from the experience :(

We had the pirate show & fireworks between the dinners in January on the Fantasy. I'm pretty sure it was the same show we'd seen before. We didn't like it. I felt that once the fireworks were over, that was the end of pirate night. It just stopped, nothing else going on. It really lost the "excitement" value by doing the fireworks so early. They also had the kids pirate show at 5.15pm.
There was no pirate buffet but that was because we were on a Star Wars cruise, so the buffet was star Wars night.

But they do fireworks on sea day on a SWDAS cruise. So wonder how far away we are from land then? We are never far away from other ships though :rotfl:.

In my experience, it's not unusual for there to be a movie running in the WDT on Pirate night. As many of the entertainment CMs are involved with the pirate night events on deck.

Exactly. In other cruises, we always had a movie for pirate night instead of a show.

Depends what cruise you were on. Some don’t wander far from land for “day at sea” and get closer to land at night.

My Att Prepaid phone worked on our balcony with full 4gLTE the evening and night of “day at sea” so we couldn’t have been too far.
