I can't remember if shorts were ok on Tropical Night in the main dining rooms, but does anyone know for the Pirates of the Caribbean night if shorts are ok? DH wants to wear shorts that one night and we're getting ready to pack!

I think they ask that no one wear shorts (or jeans) in the dining room. Unless it's a pair of pirate knickers with a striped pirate shirt and a bandana, I would suggest casual pants for Pirate Night. pirate:

How do you know about pirate night and how you are supposed to dress? we are on the oct.9 western and I do not remember getting any specifidc info on that. Mary

It started the cruise before ours 8/14 I think. We dressed in tropical, which is the theme night it replaces. The servers are dressed like pirates and everyone is given a red head band to wear. We were also allowed to keep our menus for the night. There is also a new deck party at night, which is kinda cute, has a little bit of a twist to it. Some of the parents had bought the Captian Hook attire from the ship's shops, there is no need to try and dress like a pirate, unless you would have the outfit. Tropical clothes can be worn after the cruise and a lot more pratical.

Thanks everyone. I told DH I would ask. He will gladly wear the pants, but doesn't have a casual pair of dark pants and I was hoping I didn't have to run out to the store and get one for him :p

Our Navigator from 9/1/04 says the following:

Suggested Evening Attire: Caribbean Style
(no comment on shorts)

The back of the Navigator says "no shorts or jeans, please"

I did see numerous men and boys wearing nice shorts this evening. The atmosphere was more casual this night.

BTW, on the surprise 10 day 8/28/04 Frances cruise they did allow casual attire (ie shorts and t-shirts) for dinner on the last night. Good thing as clean clothes were becoming a problem!

We wore shorts on the pirate night. We saw lots of people wearing shorts that night...It does say shorts not recomended but that night most people don't follow that rule ;)

DH and DS will be wearing shorts on Pirate night...I wouldn't have them wear long pants unless they were going to wear a ruffled shirt and powdered wig. I haven't decided what I'm going to wear. The only pictures I've ever seen of women on a pirate ship are the pictures on the covers of romance novels...somehow I don't see myself in one of those ensembles.

Hubby and I are planning on dressing as pirates for pirate night. This means Hubby will be wearing black jeans to dinner.

I've only read of people dressing a pirates. Has anyone or seen any women dressing like a pirates wench?

we had bought pirate costumes for dw, ds and dd. there are stores called party city here that carry all occasion party supplies, so they had halloween costumes out already, which included a wide selection of pirate paraphenalia. i had some shorts that were long, below the knees, which i wore with pirate boot tops.
dw's costume was a lady pirate costume which came with a hat, scarf, one piece puffy shirt, vest and short striped skirt, and boot tops. they also had a pirate wench costume, and another costume call buccaneer bride. i can't remember who made the costume. our kids will be using theirs for halloween.
as far as accessories, we bought the eyepatches with earrings, plastic pirate swords and sabres, etc.

So is Pirate Night a permanent replacement, with new menu, and the Disney Tropical/Hawaiian shirt I bought for DS is obsolete before he gets to wear it?

I thought that the Pirate night was just for the special itinerary cruises this summer/fall? If not, we will still wear our matching tropical Mickey outfits. I'm not going shopping at this point...all the clearance sales are over with.

Ginger, I have found somewhere that sells nice "pirate wench skirts" and Emma and I were toying with the idea of these for Pirate Night. Unfortunately at the moment we can't find the right kind of blouse to go with them but I may keep trying.

hey ginger,

do a search for party city online, they have locations in maryland, just enter your zip code and they'll give you the one near you.
dw wore a pirate costume that she got there, one piece shirt with skirt and vest. came with a hat and boot tops also. they also have accessories like eyepatches and earrings, musket pistols, swords and sabers, etc. they had two other adult costumes one was a buccaneer bride and the other was a pirate wench. they were all about $30.
