I think I'd like to try to get my kids on the Pirate Cruise on our next trip and I'll have to call in like 10 days or so. I know it's popular, so do I have to get up real early and start calling like for Cindy's ressies? And what number do I call? My kids will be 5 & 8 and have never done this. Anything else I should know? Thanks! (I hope I posted this in the right forum!)

I had heard from a CM that it can be difficult to get ressies so I did call 90 days prior at 7am and got in. I asked about the possibility of 2 days earlier and they were totally booked so I was glad that I did the early thing. Good luck. My 8 yr old is very excited ( I wish I could go!).

Just be aware it is subject to weather cancellations. We got cancelled twice in the same week.

Thanks Kaygela, that's what I needed to know!

InstImpres, thanks for the heads up on the weather thing. Sorry it got cancelled on you. How did you find out, did you call? Or did you go all the way out there? (I hope not!) Thanks.

We were driving over (and cutting it very close - it was hard to get the extended family group going). I called from the car and said, please don't leave without us and they said it had been cancelled and they don't call. It actually put us in a difficult position. They were rescheduling us for later in the week but the women were suppose to go to the spa and they were very unaccommadting, either keep your appointment or pay 100% cancellation fee. The men were not happy with us. They ended up instead of 1 hour of coffee and nothing having 3 kids while we lounged at the spa. It did take something away from us. Perfect plan foiled.

(The second time I was wiser and called before leabing our resort - we were at BWV)

Enjoy

What is the pirate cruise?

My three kids (9+4 y/o DS, 6 y/o DD) did the Pirate Cruise on our last trip in October.

The Pirate Cruise is a pontoon boat that sails out of the Grand Floridian. The boat is decorated with netting around the sides to keep the little ones safe (ages are 4-11), and has a pirate flag in the back. There are two CM on the ship. There are only about 15 kids (er, little Pirates) on ship. The kids upon arrival are given pirate bandanas (and a sticker w/their name) to wear, and put on life vests. The ship leaves port @ 9:30 and returns @11:00, and sails around the Seven Seas lagoon looking for buried treasure at different ports. They follow a map for buried treasure. While on the ship they are given lunch which consists of a p+b sandwhich, gummies, juicyjuice, and other snacks which I can't remember. They also get to keep the loot that they do find.

Costs are approx 29.00/child and you can call 1-407-WDW-3463 and mention the Pirate Cruise which sails out of the Grand Floridian. I belive reservations can be made 60 out (maybe even 90 days), and they fill up fast as seating is limited to about 15 little pirates. The ships sails on Monday and Thursday.

My kids had "the best" time on the Pirate Cruise and it was one the more memorable events they've had at Disney. Highly recommended !

Hope this helps.

What is the loot?
Do the adults get to go along without charge...is there an age requirement?

No adults, kids only. The loot consists of little trinkets such as a plastic eyepatch, some candy (tootsie rolls, etc), fake jewels and rubies, gold coins, necklaces, rings, and other treasure related goodies in a little treasure chest (fits in the palm of your hand). It was pretty cool and the kids liked it.

The ages are 4-11 (and they pair up each child so they have a "buddy" while on the ship), my older son helped out his younger brother so it worked out well. They should like to be on water, and not be afraid to leave you for an hour or so.
