pirate cruise question

I have seen and heard of a pirate cruise mentioned several times here, I can't seem to figure out if it is WDW or offsite. When I do a search it gives me a ton of threads about ocean cruises Help! Can someone please clue me in?

There are two. One is at the GF and there is another at the YC (I think). They only happen once or twice a week. I believe they leave around 9:30 in the morning and last two hours or so. The kids get to dress up like pirates and sail around the Seven Seas Lagoon in search of treasure. Sound pretty neat to me. The one at GF is called "Grand Adventures" pirate cruise and the other (YC?) is called Albatross. Try searching these names for better results. Sorry for all the guesses!

When we did our Wishes Cruise, our captain explained that the large boats next to us were "Pirate Cruises" and they have some sort of a meal then go on this pirate themed cruise where the boats argue back and forth, like a show or something and then they see Wishes from the boat. I think she said they are for people at one of the deluxe resorts but I don't know which one.

Yep. This is correct the Albatross is the YC/BC cruise, and the Grand Adventures is at the GF.

You'd have to call in advance to get times.

My dd's love the Pirate Cruise at the GF. They have done it 3 times now and they can't wait to do it again in Dec. Hopefully they will get to do the new one at the YC (called the Albatross). Right now it is only offered on Wednesdays. The Pirate Cruise at GF is offered a couple of times a week.

The Grand Adventure Pirate cruise and the Albatross Pirate cruise are for kids 4-10 only (no parents allowed!), they are very popular, and limited to 20 and 10 cruisers respectively. The GF cruise is offered three or four times a week, and the YC/BC one is only Wednesdays. So, if you want the kids to be able to try it out, call WDW-DINE early at the 90 day mark.

Wow, I had no idea there was a new cruise for kids! My two DS's have done the Pirate Cruise at the GF the past three times we've gone--hopefully I can get them on the Albatross when we go in June of 2006. I have to say that it sounds like it would be fun!

DS (4) went last summer at the GF. He had an awesome time. He wants to go again this trip, but its not going to happen. I guess we'll wait until December to try then.

We gave him a disposable camera to take with him on his cruise and the pictures are priceless. No idea who the kids are, lots of pictures of water and sky, but hd did get several really cute pictures. He was kind of upset that he couldn't find his picture of the monorail. Not sure what he actually took a picture of, but definitely no monorail.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is interested. We'll defnitely do it again.

My son will be 4 1/2 (almost 5) when we're at Disney. I'm thinking of booking the GF Pirate cruise, but i'm just worried he won't want to go by himself. He can be somewhat shy. I know he would have fun & loves the whole pirate scene, but i'm just concerned he'd back out at the last minute. Anyone else have these concerns or experience w/ a shy child by himself (no siblings or friends attending) ?

susanz-I know what you mean, my DD is 6 and I would feel odd putting her out on a boat without me or anyone she knows. Then again, she loves Simba's Cubhouse and The Cub's Den (kid's clubs at resorts) and she makes friends easily.

I am considering the Albatross cruise in October...DD will almost be 7 by then, and also we have some other friends that will be at WDW at the same time as us, so since their DD is the same age as my DD, we are considering having them go together.

This my question...did anyone have any qualms about putting their kid on a boat for 2 hours with strangers? I was ok with the idea, but now my DH doesn't think it is such a good idea. I guess I am just looking for some reassurance. Thanks!

No, and I'm a Nervous Nellie when it comes to my kids. DS did the GF cruise last fall by himself at age 6 and was totally fine. I think they pair kids up with a buddy? DS is a bit of an introvert and he seemed to have a great time.

Our (2x Ds's, they were 9 & 7 ) at the time absolutely loved it. I think the cruise had a maximum limit of 16 children they would take. There were 3 CM's with them, so a very nice ratio as far as Supervision goes. They give the parents a pager for a "what if" they needed to get a hold of you. Need to call at the 90 day mark to get these, as they are normally full I believe. When I called about this several weeks ago, the current dates of operation were: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday; but I believe towards the fall they cut back the dates that they do them? I'm sure last year when I booked my DS's, I'm sure I was only given a choice of 2x dates. It was really a sight to see them returning from their treasure hunt singing "YO HO YO HO a pirate's life for me" at the top of their lungs! PRICELESS !!!!!

I wanted to let my son, who is a pretty mature 6 year old go, but I tell you, getting reservations is HARD. Be sure to call 90 days out and keep calling. It is tough. We didn't get in at all, so he doesn't go. I did have some qualms about it though.

We are having him and his little brother stay at the kids club at the poly when we have dinner at Ohana, so he will get a little pirate adventure there. Not much, but a little.

And also to see if anyone knows if the Pirate/Albatross Cruises can be booked at the new 180 ADR mark rather than at 90 days?
