I'm just getting ready to pack and have some princess silly putty I was going to pack on my carry-on for my daughter to play with, but I'm wondering if its allowed. I checked the TSA site and wasnt sure. We also have a bunch of trading pins-are those OK on a carry-on? Anyone have experience with these items? Thanks

Both are fine.

My kids wore their lanyards with trading pins and are fine with that.

I don't see how silly putty would be a problem. Except if she plays with it on the plane and gets it into something like the seat? I personally wouldn't play with that on a plane, but my kids used to make such a MESS on planes!

I think the silly putty is 'allowed,' but don't be surprised if it triggers a bag check. We had a little container of Play-Doh going through security last month, and they insisted on opening the bag. Although I think that may have been more about the Spongebob riding a Jellyfish on the lid lol... Security said it looked like one of those scented plugin things. ??? Was truly an odd experience.

Point being, you should be fine, but just sharing an experience I had.

Well, IMO silly putty sure seems to appear to look an awful lot like certain plastic explosives I've seen them used, the type that can be molded by hand. So I wouldnt be suprised at all if they needed to do a little more looking at it. Again, shouldnt be an issue, just dont be suprised if they want to use the sniffer thing on it. :)

With the silly putty, just to make it easier...put it in your separate zip lock baggie, with any other small liquids you might have. That way they don't have to tear apart your carry on to check it out! :)

Pins are ok, but be prepared for extra attention when you go through security. Last time we traveled to WDW, my daughter's pin books caused her to have her luggage pulled out for screening both flying into and flying out of MCO.

It's obvious we're spending too much time "together", i.e. posting on the DIS. I had the exact same thought when I read the original post! But I checked tsa.gov, and there's nothing about this kind of toy at all - not just no restriction, but no mention.

Yes it is allowed but make it obvious so they can open it and “air it out”. Dogs are trained and the machines are calibrated for C4 and other plastic explosives. The reason why liquids have become an issue is that these detecting methods do not work well (negatives and false positives) for liquids since they are easily mixable.

That's hit and miss, I've flied with pins 3 times, the last time with my lanyard and then 2 plastic bags full of them in my carry on and they just went right thru. I was worried about them also, but the only time I've gotten checked was when I guess they couldnt tell what my one camera was or something. They checked it out and swabbed it for some reason. Must've looked like a bomb from the side I guess
