i'm lugging along my bulging pin collection in a few days on USScair. We usually drive so I'm not sure if i should pack the pins or carry them on. Anybody have experience here? I hope it won't be a hassle.

We have continued to carry our pins on the plane many times in the last year. They always check each book carefully and it takes a few minutes.

Have found if you tell the screener that it is all metal before they x-ray the book many times they do not look any closer at the pins, so don't be afraid to take them with you.

We fly out of Midway and O'hare in Chicago on Southwest and American and both act about the same with the pins.

Hope this helps.

I agree, just plan on spending an extra minute or two while they "examine" the bag. This usually evolves into a conversation:

"Wow, these pins are really nice! You have alot of them!"

"Thank you, these are my traders. My real collection is at home"

"How many pins do you have?"

"Oh, I don't know...maybe 2000"

"2000!!! Aren't they expensive?"

"Sshhh...see that guy over there? The one staring at us and rolling his eyes? That's my husband" :D

Anyway, don't even consider putting your pins in your checked luggage. There 's a good chance they won't be there at the end of the flight.

Have a great time!

Thanks, Ladies! Great advice. I feel a little better about it. Now I just have to go out and buy the pins their own carry on!
