Pinocchio on Blu-Ray-----WOW!

If you have Blu-Ray, or know someone who has BR with a hi-def TV, run, don't walk, and pick up a copy of Pinocchio. Do this for two reasons:

1) Pinocchio is the most incredible work of animation Disney has ever produced. Every scene is a work of art. With, the BR transfer, however, it is even more incredible--it just blows me away with color, clarity, and detail.

2) When I was watching Pinocchio, I kept saying to myself, "this isn't a Disney animation, this is a Walt Disney animation." The influence of Walt is seen in every detail of the movie. Walt believed in quality first, and Pinocchio epitomizes everything Walt believed in. This movie simply would not be made today--the suits would shoot it down in a second as too expensive and too "over the top."

It is my humble belief that every single Disney executive should be sat down in front of a Blu-Ray copy of Pinocchio and watch it in its entirety. Too many of them seem to work for Disney, however, they have forgotten that Disney is just another company without the inspiration of Walt.

I find the beauty of it combined with the time period it was made to be amazing. I find the story moves very slow. So I admire it from a historical and technical view point.

I agree with you on both points. It's beautiful and well made and I love watching films that I know Walt was very involved in. However, it's kinda boring . I own the Blu Ray and watched it as soon as we brought it home, but it's certainly not one I'd pull out to watch over and over again.

My dh was amazed by the underwater parts though. He had never seen it and has already watched it about 5 times.

I don't have the blu ray, but the regular DVD is still incredible. The details are amazing. In my opinion, the best Disney movie ever made.

Reckon if Walt was still alive he'd have made it into a proper widescreen version? Thats my only criticism of it. Otherwise

Please expain how Walt could have done it. It was originally made 4:3. The only way to make it widescreen now, "without stretching", is to chop off the top and bottom of the picture. Then you ruin it. Same with stretching 4x3 to fit 16x9. Walt wouldn't do that.

The Disney View borders are fine.

This is my favourite animated film from the Classics series.
Still need to make the case for blu-ray and see the price of discs in the UK come down

And I'm sure the Mona Lisa would look much nicer if we just widened it a bit, and perhaps coloured in the background a little more, so that it fits better into a more modern picture frame...

Films are what they are - if they were made in Academy Ratio, or in black and white, or even silent, then that's the way they should be seen.

Which reminds me, I know Pinocchio has a remastered 5.1 soundtrack - but does the Blu-Ray also include a cleaned up version of the original mono track for historical accuracy too? I hope so, it would take up very litlle disc space.

I'm buying it on DVD (I have a blu-ray on my laptop, but I prefer to be able to watch it anywhere).

I am pretty scared of Pinocchio though, lots of my friends agree it is one of THE scariest Disney films (par the Black Cauldron).

The land where he gets turned into a donkey is pretty freaky! The scary fox who takes advantage of him. THE WHALE!!!

It is a freaky film! (put me off beer and cigars for life!)

It was only 10.00 more at Walmart to buy the blue ray with the dvd copy vs just the dvd version. So not a bad deal. They are also going to be including a dvd copy with the Bolt blue ray disc. We are probably going to start buying these since we plan on buying a blue ray player when they get cheaper. Hopefully Disney does this for awhile.
