Summer is coming. We will be opening our pool very soon and I thought that it is time to have a little fun. I have always decorated the area around the pool rather tastefully but I decided this year to take a major risk. I just ordered a flock of the original Don Featherstone Pink Flamingos. Yup, 16 of the tacky pink wonders. I will try to keep them in the pool fence, but who knows. Some might escape into the front yard. I figured I needed something to compete with the garden knomes and the tasteful toads. I found a good price on the internet. $68 for 16.

Its your yard have fun with it's better than trash and old appliances.
I like little fun things thrown in to peoples landscaping, there is a nice Colonial House in town that has a Gargoyle on the peak of the house, hard to see and a little out of place but I get a chuckle out of it, because you know one of the couple has to be saying I dont want that thing on my house.

There is a very nice white colonial in our town with a cute little picket fence. In the yard is a 10 ft tall skelaton of a dinosaur. The dinosaur gets moved around the yard as if he is grazing. A few months after the dinosaur arrived there was a large, white oval object. That object remained in the center of the yard and then suddenly was replaced by a small, white skeleton of a dinosaur, the baby!. It is fun to drive by and see where they dinosaurs are and what they are doing!

I had to laugh out loud as we're doing the PINK FLAMINGO fundraiser right now.
I've been moving flamingos under cover of darkness for the last week....we've had a blast!

Where did you order your flamingos from?

I love it. We used to have pink flamingos in our back yard. Had a yard sale back there, and when someone asked DH if they could buy them, he sold them WITHOUT asking me:(

my cat attacked one of my plastic flamingos the other day: he'd been fighting and I think he saw the shape out of the corner of his eye, decided it was next doors grey cat and launched himself. Oh for a video camera. We also have four garden gnomes all of whom have mini beer bottles in their hands (thanks Busch Gardens Tampa).

Funny you should mention this now as I've been doing some inexpensive "landscaping" here at the lake and the first words ot of my DD's mouth were - "NO PINK FLAMINGOS !!!"

Neither one of us like them - actually I HATE them - but that's just my taste and if you like them, then go for it!

I also tend to think they only belong in yards in Florida.. Don't know why, it's just a mind-set that I have - LOL...:teeth:

hey DawnCT,

i'm Dawn in CT too! LOL. For mothers day my FIL bought me a small pink flamingo from the dollar store as a joke. I put it out on the side of the house, peeking out from a bush. I told him I like it because I can sit outside and pretend I'm in Florida. Maybe during the winter I'll bring him inside.

I am one of those people that dont like too much going on in my yard...maybe a simple flag or something...My MIL gave me two flamingos. They werent pink...they were blaze orange...I stuck then in the hall closet and only put them out when they came over. One day they popped over (like usual) and she asked where they were. I told her they had been stolen (nothing like blaze orange flamingo envy). Luckily never had to put them out again.

On a side note there is a lady who lives in the next town who has an entire bathroom ensemble in her front yard. Clawfoot tub, pedastal sink and a toilet that she uses as a planter.

Here I live in a small town in SE Minnesota and all the stores are selling Pink Flamingos!

They are hot!

Popping up everywhere. I am tempted.

herc.

There's nothing that cracks me up more then a pink plastic flamingo surrounded by a foot of snow in Connecticut.

hehehe

you better watch it ladies - I'll find out where you live and drive around the state next February loading my SUV up with all the neglected flamingos left out in the winter! heheh

I live in a neighborhood where everyone takes the lawn and the yard very seriously. Heck, I take my lawn very seriously. I mow every three days in opposite directions, dandelions get zapped the minute their little yellow heads emerge so having pink flamingos is really out of character, not only for me but for my neighborhood, which is what makes the entire thing so darned funny. A couple would be odd but a flock of 16 will be hilareous!
One of the funniest Christmas decorations that I saw last year was about 7 pink flamingos lighted on the lawn around a Christmas tree! I know that I will have some neighbors that won't see the humor at all.
