Pinewood Derby Cruise Ship

My son has his Pinewood Derby this weekend so I decided to join in the fun and make a car of my own.

After I finished I showed my son and he asked where the slide into the Mickey pool was.

Looks great!! My son is disappointed as he is missing his scout's pinewood derby day - but I think being on the Disney Cruise instead will more than make up for it!!

I showed my DH and he said go get another block and I'll make you one....Since we are in California and my DS won't run it (his sister will) is that ok with you??? Hate to steal your idea, but it really is priceless and truly all our scout friends will know whos car it is without asking anyone.

Steal away! It was fun to do it. I made my husband do the rough cuts but I sanded it all and did all the painting and attached the funnels. We used a wooden dowels for them.

OMG....how adorable!!! DS has to get to work on his Derby car this weekend. I'll have to show him this!

Last year he did Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder and won 1st place in 1 of the design categories. (Good thing b/c the dern thing came dead last in the races LOL)

That is totally awesome!! We just sailed on 1/7 and my DS's pinewood derby race is next Saturday. He will just love that idea! (Hope it's okay to "borrow" your idea??!!) Great job and thanks for sharing!

This is a great design! My son's not a cubby anymore, he's moved on to camping in the snow, fires and knives!

I think this is such a cute design though. I always tried to get him to go for design, not for speed. He just couldn't do it though. His cars were always really thin and had a big hole cut out of the middle. They were fast, but not very pretty!

Wish we were still racing now that I've seen this design!

Very cool car!

DS just put his first coat of paint on his derby car. His last race is this Saturday (he's in Webelos II). There's big competition in our pack and district so DS and DH build his car for speed.

I can't wait to show it to my scouts, DS8 and DS6, tomorrow. They are both in bed already. DS6 is a Tiger, so this is his first year. Our derby is in March, right before we sail. They have not started on their cars yet, but I showed the pix to DH and he might borrow the idea too! Thanks for sharing!

Very cool. I need to dig up a picture of my Disney monorail car I built for our Pack's Dad's race last year. I wanted my DS to use it, but he insisted on a monster truck. He was working on his car tonight and he is doing a top fuel dragster this year. Wish I had time to do the Dad's race this year -- I might just have build a little "Magic"

Cool! Those are the best Pinewood Derby cars I've ever seen. Now I have ideas for when I have kids and they become scouts.
