Pine Scent at WL???

I just read on another thread that there may be a really strong pine scent at WL. I am HIGHLY allergic to pine & it never even occured to me that the Lodge might have a scent. My allergy is so bad that I break out in hives if I even touch a pine branch (obviously, no real Christmas trees at our house). If I am around a strong pine scent for even a short period of time I can end up with severe bronchitis. Has anyone stayed there and had a problem with the scent? Can you smell it in the rooms? I am about to panic!!!!

We never smelled any pine scent whatsoever when we were there in October. I don't even know where it would come from. I believe all the wood in the hotel is fabricated and any trees they may have up this time of year are artificial. Anyway, never smelled any pine.

I wonder if it's something they "pipe in" at Christmas?? I don't really worry about the trees outside, it's just the possibility of it being in a confined space. Anyone else?

I have read about pine scent before. However, the 5 times I have been to WL I have never smelled any pine scent. If I did, I would be sneezing.

Wow! I have never heard about that but I certainly hope it isn't true! Both my youngest son and myself have asthma and are highly allergic. We also cannot have a real tree in our house. Tried that one year with a 12 footer in the living room, and had to un-decorate it after one day in the house and get it outside! I cannot believe that Disney wouldn't be sensitive to people with allergies and asthma, can you? Maybe it is just a rumor???? Anybody????

We were at WL last Christmas and never noticed a pine scent. That's not to say it wasn't there we just never noticed. All of the trees inside that we saw are artificial, however there are real pine trees around the entances.

We stayed there at the end of the holiday season in 2001 and didn't notice any pine scents.

I have severe allergies and asthma. i have had no problems at Wilderness Lodge at all.:D :)

I have bad allergies and sever asthma too. We have stayed at WL 8 times and have never smelled pine. We just got back from there and it was the first time that we have gotten to see the Christmas decorations. Still no pine scent!

I wouldn't worry about it.

JMHO

We were at WL in October on the 1st floor. The only thing we smelled that drove me nuts was the bathrooms! Walking down the ramp every day and rounding the corner you could smell them. For a deluxe resort or any resort for that matter it was just plain disgusting! You will be happy to know that there was no pine smell however.
Faith, trust, and pixie dust to you!

We stayed at WL a few years ago over Thanksgiving. We never notices a pine scent. It definitely would have bothered me if I did. I have a very sharp nose and don't like strong, perfumey smells. The only smell I noticed was the faint smell of what reminded me of burning leaves and/or a fireplace in the wintertime. It was very pleasant and faint.

We stayed there for 7 nights in 2000 around Christmas. The tree is live, and there was a VERY heavy pine-y scent. I don't know that it was from the tree... I think it was eminating from the gift shop.... that was VERY heavily pine scented! I am also allergic to pine, and had a horrible time with my allergies the entire time we were there.

We were there in May and there was definitely a pine scent along with a general woodsy smell. We liked it and even talked about the smell of the WL and how we missed that at the Poly.

If you walk straight through the lobby towards the pool, you will find a small foot bridge and a "hot spring". If you look at the floor you will see pine needles strewn about. These are actually brought in from a special source(that is to say they aren't just gathered up from out side) and sprinkled on the floor for effect. There is also s subtle scent of pine in the air. This is the only place I havew ver noticed it and you certainly can't smell it in any of the rooms.

In the mercantile(gift shop) in October they were selling 'Smell of the tree' potporri which is heavily scented. It smells wonderful, like spruce, so it could be what some people smell. other than that, I've never smelt anything other than the pine trees outside.

We were there just a few weeks ago and I agree with what several other posters have said: They do have pine scented gifts for the holidays and that smell may be leaking out into the lobby. I have been there at other times of the year and have never noticed it. I do want to let you know, though, that there are HUGE pine trees all over outside. It would be pretty hard to avoid them, so be careful. On a positive note, I have allergy induced asthma, too, and I haven't had a problem at the Lodge.

Now I have a sinus infection. Guess I will just take a suitcase full of allergy/asthma meds & hope for the best. At least we will be driving down to Sarasota & Venice one day, so maybe standing on the beach & breathing the ocean air will help.
