Pine Nuts- After Taste Problem

Has anybody heard of this before, mine started on Friday, when every single thing I ate or drank resulting in a horrible metallic/copper taste in my mouth. It got so bad yesterday that I popped into the doctors as I was so concerned.

I knew I was'nt pregnant as some had suggested but all sorts of things were going round in my head.

Anyway it appears that it has happened because of some seeds and nuts I had been eating last Wednesday, I bought from Asda this small pot of mixed nuts and seeds which contained just 10% pine nuts, and I had to phone them yesterday to find out the country of origin as the pine nuts that usually cause this problem come from China, and sure enough after some investigation that was where these pine nuts had come from.

It usually starts about 2-3 days after you have eaten them and can last anything from 4 days to 3 weeks

It appears these pine nuts can pretty much wipe out your normal taste buds and everything and I mean everthing you eat and drink tastes like you are sucking a 2p piece at the same time. Im on my 5th day of it now and its not getting much better, although the doctor did say that there isnt any evidence that it has a long term damaging effects, and that it doesnt happen to everyone, looks like I have just been unlucky this time, as I eat pine nuts all the time, although I have to say this has now put me off buying them in the future.

I made a curry Sunday night as strong as I could to see if I could mask the taste, not even that worked and I had no idea how much garlic and spices I had put in it until I looked at Vicki turning a bright shade of red with heat as she ate it

That's a case of "pine mouth" - I'm not kidding, that's what it's actually called

I had it last year, went through a phase of eating a lot of pine nuts. I looked it up on the net and found some info about it. Sounds really strange doesnt it, but as you say, the taste is horrible

It lasted for around a fortnight with me - completely normal taste after that.

I hope you manage to get rid of it

It is actually making me feel quite sick all the time, funny thing is, it only happens when I eat and drink, Ive even tried extra extra strong mints all to no avail. Even a glass of wine is vile, how wrong is that

Ive tried charcoal tablets, but they have not worked yet and to be honest they are horrible Im sort of getting used to it now though

Joanne - I thought the same thing, but although food and drink taste file, I keep trying more and more different things to see if one thing is better than the other and Im eating and drinking more

Well finally things are looking up, I had a Vanilla latte this morning and Im sure I could taste a hint of Vanilla coming through the copper taste, just tried a extreme cheese and chilli pringle and could def taste the cheese, either its returning or my brain is just tricking me I can taste it
