Ok I am new to the whole pin trading, but I know it is huge. So can I have some basic information about it. I understand that you get pins and any cast member has to trade you a pin if you ask for it. But where do you wear the pins? Is there something you are supposed to buy to wear around your neck? My daughter is 9....how many should I get for her??? I would rather buy some a head of time..I am sure they are pricey down there. I am surfing Ebay and such. I know there are some that aren't authentic but I was looking at Lanyards and to be hon est I have no idea what that means and how that is different...What is a good price for a pin? TIA

My youngest DD also loves pin trading!!! I bought her one of the "pin trading" lanyards at Downtown Disney. It comes with four pins (two of same kind of pins so you can keep one of each and trade the others). It was about $25.00.

Most of the pins run about $6.50 at Disney. There are some nicer ones that are more. Usually, since DD buys her own pins, she sticks with the cheaper ones!!!

Before we go, I order her some pins from pinshoppe.net, and pay about $3.50 per pin. And she uses these pins to trade. (I've also seen recently that Disneydirect was having a sale on pins!) DD trades with the CMs, but also, some of the hotels have books set up near the pin carts that you can look through and trade.

The lanyards are what you wear around your neck and it can hold quite a few pins! You can get a plain lanyard that does not come with any pins, but I'm not sure on the cost though. I've also seen some kids with pins on their hats! There was one couple that had a vest of pins! The lady said it gets to be kinda heavy to wear though!

She really has a good time collecting her pins!! And the CMs have been so nice to talk with and tell her which pins she should keep - and they ask her which characters are her favorite, etc! She loves talking with the CMs!

Have a great time pin trading!!!!

disneydirect.com is having a great sale right now. There is a tink lanyard for $6.99 and plenty of pins for $3.99 and up. No shipping. It really is a decent sale. Good luck1

Yes, CM's with green lanyards only trade with kids but there are many other CMs who trade with kids and adults. And at almost every location where you can but pins, they have books of pins for trade also. Also, you can buy starter sets which consist of a lanyard plus 2 of each kind of pin (4 total) so kids can start trading off their duplicates right away.

One thing about the lanyards -- they can get heavy and uncomfortable to wear around your neck in the parks so you may want to consider a different means of wearing or carrying your pins -- I've seen them on hats, vests, backpacks, etc. And you may be able to plan on going to a pin-trading event at your resort -- when we stayed at WL there was pin-trading in the lobby 2 nights a week in the evening -- it was on the info you get at check-in.

I found a waistbag on eBay (and later saw the same thing at the Disney Welcome Center on I-75) that was much better for me than a lanyard. The kids were always taking off their lanyards and leaving them with me when they rode rides.

Even easier, I found myself just sticking a handful of pins in my jeans pocket and bringing them out as needed. Then I'd put the new pins we traded for into a baggy in my purse. It was a lot easier than messing around with the pin backs.
