A while back someone posted about how they bought (pre-cruise) some reasonably priced pins for their child to trade onboard. Do CMs trade only cruise pins or do they also trade WDW pins? Do guests also trade with other guests? We have a few WDW pins. How can I best prepare so my daughter can do some pin trading? Thanks!

a good website to get cheap disney pins to trade with the CM's is www.cheappins.com and we found out at WDW that any pin you have they will trade for. i think its the same on DCL. i hope LOL

the CM's trade mostly WDW pins. I have been on the 7 day cruise twice and don't recall seeing any pins on CM lanyards for the cruise line.

Most guests also trade WDW pins, however some will trade pins they have been given for being repeat cruisers and for winning games that occasionally give the winner a pin.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will check out the pin website. By the way, what does "LOL" mean?

LOL = laugh out loud :)

we traded on the Wonder - there were also two pin trading sessions in the atrium in which there is a black book that is the ship's in which you can trade pins from.

We participated in the Disney Trivia twice - first time we each got a Wonder pin for placing first, second time we all got one for participation. My DH went to the ping-pong tournament and won by default (only some young boys turned up :)) and he got another Wonder pin for doing that. We kept one of all of those for a keepsake and traded the rest with CMs. These are activities, so don't do them JUST to get a free pin to trade, you may not get one. But the Disney trivia was fun to do as a family, if it works into your schedule and/or interest.

The CMs traded just like at WDW.

We had a great time pin trading on the Wonder and even a better time trading back at WDW after the cruise. People really want the pins from the cruise line and will trade you very nice pins to get them. We spent a huge amount on pins while on board and were very glad to get everyone of them.

We have also purchased lots of trading pins from cheap pins, they make good CM traders in the parks and on the ship.

Pin trading is a big part of our children's fun on the ship.

Here are my suggestions:
1. Get a lanyard and a "lot" of pins from eBay. Go on eBay and type "Disney Pins lot" (without the quotations). Look especially for a "lot" that includes a lanyard if you don't have one. Also, in the item description be sure that it says "official" disney pins. Shoot for between 2.50 and 3.00 per pin including shipping. In my opinion, cheappins.com is fine but it's much easier to buy a lot of 10-20 pins on eBay.
2. On the boat, look for cast members (CMs) who are wearing lanyards. A great time to pin trade is in the atrium upon embarkation. There are lots of CMs there with lanyards. They are required to trade any official pin with any other official pin (as long as they don't already have that pin).
3. Another great spot for pin trading is the Guest Services counter.
4. We traded with other kids during the pin trading times at night (look in the Navagator for times).

Have fun - my boys (5 and 8) had a blast pin trading!

Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions! One of my daughters will absolutely love pin trading. Now I'll be ready!

I found a set of nine "McDonalds, Coke and Snow White & Seven Dwarfs with Prince Charming" pins on ebay. Had planned on taking these on our first cruise for DS to trade. However, since it is set, is it proper ettiquette to split it up?

TIA

Dean

pins that are in a set are supposed to be traded as sets. proper ettiquette will not allow you to divide the set. I just thought you would want to know beforehand rather than to be disappointed later.

yep - split 'em

Now I'm really confused.

I don't agree with that sentiment. It depends how the set is constructed. If the pins are sold on one card, then they are meant to be kept together. The kind of pins I'm thinking of are some of the Year 2000 sets that were sold three years ago, where four pins made up the year '2000'. On the other hand, I had a number of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sets that were made to promote the movie. They were eight indiviual pins sold together as a set. I broke those apart and traded them individually without any problems.

These particular pins are individually packaged and appear to be a pin from a McDonalds and Coca-Cola joint promotion of Snow White and the Dwarfs. Each pin has the arch in the background and the character with a bottle of coke.

Sorry for the confusion, just don't want to be disappointed or surprised on board.

One thing about those pins- Do they have a disney trademark on the back?? Because they have to be "official" disney pins in order to trade
