We ALWAYS pin trade....not for collecting or financial gains (that's just silly).
We love hunting for cool designs of our favorite characters......
We gave Tinkerbell pins with her on springs, glowing HM , Stitch spinning ones....etc etc..
My personal obsession is finding the Ghosts from HM, in any form. Sure you can just buy them, but the hunt is the fun! Its like a scavenger hunt in WDW! Turn it into a game for each member to find their favorite character.
My son is collecting the mouse ears from each country.
