Someone please explain pin trading to me. We saw people with pins on our last trip and read about it on this site, but as a college grad I still don't understand.

1. Where do you get the pins to trade.

2. Who do you trade with?

3. Anything Else?

Going in Dec. w/ DS7, DS4 and DD2

1. You buy the pins. They are at nearly every gift shop.

2. You trade with anyone else who has pins and wants to trade. This is often CMs but can also be other guests.

3. You can also buy a lanyard to put the pins on. You can buy a pouch for the end of the lanyard to hold your tickets. You can buy medallions for the end of the lanyard. You can buy lanyard/pin sets. You can buy sets of pins. Are you seeing a pattern here? (LOTS of buying involved ---- but LOTS of fun!)

we buy pins on ebay before we go. I usually get a big bunch of them, not caring what Disney pins they are, than the kids divide them up and trade them with mostly the cm's. My kids love talking with the cm's, and we do this instead of a lot of souvenirs.

If the pin is forward facing that means you are willing to trade it. If you wear it backwards you don't want to trade it. CM are the easiest to trade with. My girls started last trip and they had so much fun with the CM trading. :)

We did the same thing on our trip in December. I bought a "lot" of about 35 WDW pins off of Ebay for about fifty dollars. We bought two lanyards at the resort for about four bucks each. We only traded with CM's and it was a great to strike up a conversation. We ended up with all new pins by the time we left and I did not have to buy anymore. Most new pins in the parks will cost between six and fifteen dollars so it saves a lot of money to buy off of Ebay first.

Also, if a CM is wearing a green lanyard they can only trade with children. Blue lanyards is with any age. A CM at our resort told me you, the guest, can pick any pin the CM has for trading and give them any one of yours you want, unless they already have it.

We also lucked out when several CM's just gave my daughter a new pin without wanting one back. They were special edition ones for the Year of a Million Dreams.

Just remember though the lanyard can get in the way if you have too many pins so you may want to only take a few and change them up each day.

Have fun!!!!

I've never done ebay so I buy our pins when Disney has their semi-annual pin sale which is in Feb & Aug. I've bought sets then split them up between the kids, I watch for that sale and buy a few more each time. HTH

Our first trip we bought our pis at the park and spent so much money. I now buy on ebay and gets lots my kids have fun.

We love the CM hidden mickey ones.

What do the pins retail for in the park ? I just found a lot on ebay where the average is about three dollars a pin. Good deal as a starter set for DS5 ?

They are anywhere from about $7.95 up. They also sell boxes of "mystery pins" for $12 for 2 pins but you can't see what they are until you buy them. Sets are usually a little less per pin, I got a set of 4 for $20 so it was $5 per pin. $3 each is a good price.

Thaks for the feedback. Looking forward to seeing what all of the buzz is about. The BiN auction has ended for the batch that I bought. But it looks like the seller has some sets left and will likely relist. If you're interested, check out the link below and keep an eye out for a set of five pins for fifteen dollars. Free shipping. :surfweb:

Please, please be very careful when purchasing pins from eBay as some of them are counterfeit. We paid over $100 for a 40 pin lot and most, if not all, are "scrappers" that should have been melted back down at the factory. I didn't realize there was anything odd about them until I was researching on PinPics, and by then it was too late to file a dispute. I love throwing money away! Know your product before you buy, ask yourself if the seller would have a legitimate reason to be in possession of hundreds of identical pins, and proceed with caution.

Another word to the wise, there are different disney pins,(propin euro,,etc) they must my "real" disney pins, or the cm will not trade with you. Im going to try this on our next trip. I did not chance the purchase on ebay. there are several pin selling website dedicated to these pins. you might pay .25 cents more a pin but it will be a real pin. A lot of people on ebay use tradable pin in a very "free" way. if you do a search in the collectables board fo r pins tou will find not only the website to buy from, but the website to verify the pins or "Real". I would do a little homework before you buy!! I did for two days and a lot of questions asked on these boards! thanks dis!!
