Hi

DD (11) has informed us that she wants to do pin trading when we are at Disney in February. Can anyone give me any tips or advice on how it works

Thanks :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

DD traded a couple of pins, with cast members, when we visited at Easter :thumbsup2

Basically you approach a cast member who has a pin you like and swap it with one of your own :sunny:
We just had pins we were either given as free gifts or that we'd bought in the Disney stores but I've seen people buy up cheap pins on E-Bay specifically to trade ;)

As I mentioned DD only traded a couple of pins so we're no experts on what to do but I'm sure there will be plenty of people who can give you tips :goodvibes

Some of the cast members are only allowed to trade with children and i think that they have a green lanyard. The pins have to have disney copyright on the back. Some pins you are able to pick up cheap in the malls so if you see cheap ones i personally would pick up a few. Dd loved doing this and will be trading again in Dec, she is a little shy and it seemed to encourage her to talk to others in and around Disney.

Thanks Alison

I have looked on ebay and am looking at buying a couple for her christmas present.

No doubt it will be more expensive than her previous trip where she collected autographs and pressed pennies

They do get fussy about only genuine Disney pins - so watch out for chap Spanish ones on ebay as she may not be able to swap them. The Outlet stores in Prime (Belz as was) and Preium outlets sometimes have Disney auction pins very cheap (approx $3.50) and other end of stock pins. Pins normally cost between $6 and $15 and they have a lot of them so don't get hooked.

They also have some pretty nice starter Lanyards which come with 4 - 8 pins on them. the 4 pin ones are two duplicates to get them started. the ones with more pins may be themed but you can still trade the ones you like least.

Finally you are not limited to trading with cast members - you can trade with anyone who has pins to trade. The only difference is that CMs have to trade with you - other people may not want what you have to offer. I think the CM does not have to take your pin if they already have an identical one on their Lanyard.

Occasionally the Disney Stores over here do pins - if you see some get them as they are very tradeable.

Most important of all - have fun while you are doing it - I think your daughter will enjoy it as it is a good way to get a conversation going.

It is very addictive, My best advise is buy off Ebay or it becomes a very expensive hobby, my son has about 500-550 pins now and would have cost a fortune paying $6.50+tax, some of the ones he has bought for his collection have cost $20-30. You could buy them over in Florida Disney discount shops but they seem to have stopped selling them now. last 2 trips they have only had them at $5.99 for cheapest.
Make sure its a good trader on ebay that knows what they are selling , it will say 100% tradable or similar, I stay away from the sellers from Spain and Israel. UK and USA sellers are usually OK. I never pay more than £2/pin.
Took 60 with us to trade last month, we were there for 25 nights , ran out after about 20 nights.
Have fun trading.

Thanks all

I have taken your advice and got some pins off ebay. 15 for £15. I will put them away till christmas, nice suprise pressie.

The seller says they are genuine Disney pins

I sure DD11 will love it

we have a selection of pins from DLP. can we trade these too???
Yes if they are official Disney pins you bought in the park. We traded for 3 or 4 from Cast members from DLP, so they must have accepted them from someone else.
