The last time we went to WDW was Aug 1999 and it was before the pin trading started so we haven't had any experience with it. Any tips for first-time pin traders? Any tips on how to get some of the rare ones?
Thanks for any insight.

We started collecting pins last year. There's a great web site with all the disney pins. I think its dizpins.com but I'm not sure. Anyway, our collection is small but we have started by collecting a pin for each resort we have stayed at, our name pins, and pins of our favorite rides. We also bought a Disney bookbag to put our pins on instead of a lanyard. I'm not really into trading, I 'm more into collecting.

there are lots of pins up for sale on ebay if you want to get some before you go. You need to know your prices though, some of the 6.50 ones are selling for 10$. You can get the starter sets and lanyards for a pretty good price on ebay.

Check the collectors board on here. There are a bunch of us over there that collect pins. There you can make trades and find other people that are new to the hobbie as well as people that have been doing it for years. Here are my tips. HAVE FUN. Stick to themes, favorite characters or movies or rides etc. that are special to you. www.pinpics.com is where you can see pictures of most of the pins available. www.dizpins.com is a site where you can read about recent releases at all of the parks. They are updated daily. Dizpins also has a trade board, and a sale board so you can find pins there as well. Hope some of this helps. Check out the collectors board for alot more info.

My DS lost a pin last week while we were in WDW because a back came off. He also found a pin last week because someone's else's pin back came off. Do any of you have tips on helping to keep the pins secure? We bought a package of the rubber backs, and many of the pins he bought had the metal backs. Which are better? Also, he took his lanyard to school this week to show his teacher the pins, and one of his classmates found one of his pins on the floor... So..this is a big problem. I wonder how many other people lose their pins this way. We bought my son a new pin to replace the one he had lost, but I can imagine it'd become very frustrating and costly to keep replacing lost pins. Any tips or help? Thanks!!

collectors board and ask there...most of the people on there collect pins.
I think that the rubber pin backs are more secure so I replace the metal with the rubber..
As you can see by my avatar I love pins....

I know that the trading at WDW went on during millenium and i traded some pins, but are the CMs still trading even after the celebration? :bounce:

Rubber pin backs tend to hold better. I replace all of mine with the rubber pin backs.
YES, pin trading is still going strong. They are having monthly special events for it right now that are coming to an end in August with a big 4 day pin event at Epcot. After that pins will still be traded. Disney claims this will be going on forever. As of now it has no forseable end.
