Hi! I'm wondering about getting into the wonderful world of pins, but I know nothing! :confused3
Well, I know I think they are pretty. :rolleyes1
And I know you can buy them. I heard people mention trading them. But that's all I know. Where can I find some good reads on them? Who can explain this trading?

To start with it is simple, pick a theme or favorite character and start buying pins, lots of pins and Disney will be way happy!! You can also look on ebay or dizpins to locate cheap pins…why do you want cheap pins? When you trade with Cast members at WDW or DL they are required to trade with you as long as what you are trading to them is marked Disney on the back and made of metal (plastic buttons need not apply). Eventually you can venture off and trade with others but the key is knowing the value of what you are trading for, and what you are trading away…

I gotta tell you about open and limited edition! That' the thing I didn't really know about when I started, and I wish I would have.Open edition pins are made as long as people want them or their retired.Limited editions are pins that are only made in a certain amount. The smaller the amount, the greater chance people will want to trade or if you get out of it,the greater chance you'll make all or more money back.I used to get almost all open editions, until I saw that they are pretty much worthless after a few years.LE's can make money if you ever decided to sell. That's all I got to say about that!Hope you have fun!Pins are pretty, aren't they?!LOL!

Ok, I do plan to read those sites, but quick question? How do you know if it's an LE, is it marked LE on the back? And how do you initiate a trade?
Thanks so much for the help!

LE Pins are always noted LE on the back, with the # in the edition. Some are more "valuable" than others - once you get familiar with pinpics.com, you'll understand better.

You can set up an ID on pinpics, and then set up a wants list. It looks intimidating at first, but it's not so bad if you narrow your search down to specific areas of interest.

First and foremost, decide what "themes" you want to collect. Otherwise, it's like being in Candyland. It's all SO GOOD.

PS - once you get started on pinpics, you'll understand how to initiate a trade online. Trading in person is explained in the web sites folks above me have already referenced. Also, if you go to the parks, be sure to check out Scoops 1:00 pin talk in the MK Sun-Wed behind Tony's restaurant. Great place to learn about pins.

I need to correct you there. Scoop's pin talks are held inside the theather at Exposition Hall, not behind Tony's restaurant. Here is the offical information about his pin talks. http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/event?id=3411

I've been reading all these posts and I've been on the various pin websites (pinpics, dizpins, etc.) and it seems like the majority of trading is done with pins purchased at WDW or DL. Are pins from The Disney Store tradeable? Is there a minimum value? It appears that most pins are $6.95 and up, but TDS sells pins for $5.50.

This pin trading thing looks like a blast, but there's so much to know when yo're picking up a new hobby!

Technically correct, but I always think of that theater as being "behind" Tony's since I walk past Tony's entrance to get to it.

Thanks for the correction.
