Subscribing too....we've pin traded dozens of times...I'm not sure I've ever seen any "different" types of pins. They all seem to be the kind they sell in the shops.
DD9 loves to trade pins when she is not getting autos. If you look at the back of the pins they will say if they are lanyard series(only given to CM's to trade), or limited edition pins wil have serial numbers (1 of 1000 or something). Hope this helps
I am new at the pin trading process! How do we get started and how do we trade?? I have a DD 4 3/4 with a lanyard and pin from AAAtravel agent when we went to Disney last year, she wants to get started! We are going in April.
Thanx!!

just buy some pins (I suggest online or off WDW property for best prices), put them on her lanyard and let her start trading with any CM you see with a lanyard.
If the CM doesn't have the pin you offer them they must trade, also green lanyards are for children under 12.

We usually buy from the disney online shopping website, and just buy the pin sets they have on clearance. You usually get them for around $3.75 a pin. This way we are sure they are official Disney pins and she will be able to trade them. We try to buy pins that we don't think she will like (she collects the princess pins), last time we bought 101 dalmations, that way she will trade them.
Good Luck
Last week at the outlets (Prime & Orlando Premium) we got a ton of pins for 1.99 each. They were all dated with 2005 on them, but the kids didn't care since they were trading them anyway!!! If you're in MK on sun, mon,or tues, be sure to check out Scoop's 1o'clock Pin Talk in the Expo hall. It is very informative to newbies and he gives the kids with lanyards a free pin!!
The propins and sedesma pins are of much lower quality - once you see the difference, you'll never mistake one for a 'real' Disney pin. The official pins will have Disney stamped on the back, will be metal, and will look like the ones you see in the shops. The others can be plastic or look like they're painted or just plain look cheap and not of Disney-quality.
Thank you Samantha' Dad. I did not know that they were on sale at the Disney store online. I usually just get there and buy the $6.95 and trade for the ones I want that are more expensive. I wear one to school (teacher) every day. I love them. I will check before we go this year for the sale ones. We did get some black and white ones last year when trading as the CM said it was the best ones and would be collector pins. Not sure if they are but, I really like them. I just collect to wear. I know CM's love to trade with children. Thanks for the post. I did not know what you were talking about either at first. Have a good trip.
