Pin Trading in the disney stores

Now I actually thought that was the rule, as it is at DLP! On the pin boards they have the limited pins separated and you have to trade limited ones for them - it hasn't been relevant here yet though as I haven't traded for a limited pin in the Disney Store yet.
With the boards it is, but with lanyards there's no such thing. If you want something off a CM Lanyard, it doesn't matter if it's open edition or Limited Edition of 100, they HAVE to trade as long as the pin you're offering is acceptable. :) I traded with CMs for quite a few LE pins at WDW last year, and I never had a problem.

@Masamune: that Master Gracie pin is awesome - great find!

I realise that pin trading is new here but I would have expected more from Disney CM's - especially as there is a pin trading leaflet available in-store!

Thanks! The Oldham lanyard was full of really great pins. It was so hard to only pick two! I went for the Master Gracey one because it's from the same series as a Cheshire Cat pin that I own. Likewise, I went for the Easter Pluto one because I have a Stitch pin from that series.

All CMs really should've been taught the basics of pin trading before each individual store actually started pin trading. It's not like they all started at the same time, so each store will have had enough time to get used to the idea.

Wow that master Gracey pin certainly is a good find indeed! I was going to try and keep out of the Disney Store for a least a week but now I think I'm going to struggle!
:goodvibes Hehe, I'm heading to my local store tomorrow. I haven't been in since Tuesday, so it's been almost a week! Hopefully there will be something on the lanyards other than the core pins that you can buy at the store!

Well I have to walk past the Disney Store most days on my way home from work and the tempation to just see what they have is usually too much...

I knew I was going there too much when one of the managers said to me 'you know we aren't like the parks we don't get new pins every day' :lmao:

I really like the idea of them setting up some pin trading events for us - I won't feel so bad if there were a few like minded people about!

A pin trading event would be fab :cool1:

Masamune - thanks for the info about the lanyards, I didn't realise that. We just assumed that it would be the same I think, I don't remember anyone actually telling us you had to trade limited/limited!

We did meet one really grumpy CM in a shop in Disney Village at DLP - my daughter asked to look at her pins and she said "you can look, but I only trade for nice pins and I only collect villains so it has to be a villains pin". Fortunately my daughter didn't care as she didn't really want villains pins anyway and she'd traded loads that day already, but we all laughed afterwards that we could see why she liked the villains ones!

@ Twink - The Disney Store is just around the corner from where I work, so it's hard for me to not want to pop in during my lunch or after I've finished work. :) I'm just meeting a friend in town today, so we'll be popping in there at some point.

I would love a proper pin trading event. If they were going to do one though, it would probably be done at the flagship store in London, unless it was a country-wide event.

@ Minnie - I've met a few CMs at DLRP who prefer to pick a pin rather than just get handed one, but I've never been refused a trade. Out of all those great employees, there's bound to be a few not so great ones.

Oh by the way, here's what I traded for at DLRP! I took these pics on my mum's phone so they're not exactly great quality. The first pic is all the open edition pins I traded for (except for Valentine's Stitch and Daisy Maleficent which were both bought) and the second one is all the LE pins I traded for (except for Merlin and the Castle, which were both bought at the Pin Trading Night). :) Below that I've listed what each of the LE pins is limited of.

PS. Click the pics to see the bigger versions!

Top Row
Donald for Mayor - LE 1000
Jessica and Roger - LE 3600
Pin Trader Ratigan - LE 2500
Halloween Chernabog - LE 3000

Middle Row
Simba and Sarabi - LE 900 (I got pin number 190)
Nana and Tinker Bell - LE 750
Queen of Hearts Jessica - LE 300
Jewelled Cheshire - LE 1000
Grasshopper and the Ant - LE 900 (I got pin number 424)

Bottom Row
Merlin Pin Trading Night - LE 400 (I got pin number 314 and pin number 296)
Stitch and Angel - LE 1000
Mrs Jumbo and Dumbo - LE 1000
Walt Castle - LE 900 (I got pin number 734)
Cheshire Cat Crest - LE 1500

:goodvibes All of the open edition pins I traded for were traded off Cast Members, except for the Dumbo one and the Copper one, which were traded off a pin board. Out of the LE pins (obviously this doesn't include Merlin or the Castle pin), 6 were traded off a pin board, and 6 were traded off other guests at the Pin Trading Night I went to. The 6 that were traded off a board were the 4 on the top row, the Sarabi/Simba pin and the Grasshopper/Ant pin.

:cloud9: I'm extremely pleased with the 6 I traded off people at the Pin Trading Night. That night they released 2 Pin Trading Night pins instead of 1. They released the awesome Merlin pin and... a Meet the Robinsons pin. I bought 2 of each, but planned on getting rid of the Robinsons pin ASAP because it was just ugly. I traded one of them for the incredible Jessica Queen of Hearts pin (this is my fave pin EVER), and I traded the other for the Nana pin AND the jewelled Cheshire pin. After that, I went on to find an even better deal!

I got the Stitch/Angel pin and the Mrs Jumbo/Dumbo pin in exchange for... the Mickey and Goofy giftbox UK cast lanyard pins! The lady wanted them badly, so she offered me any two LE pins of hers, even though I explained that the lanyard pins weren't exactly limited themselves. Sadly she had no Cheshire ones, but the two I got are just lovely. The Stitch/Angel one is from the Tokyo Disney Store! Then lastly, I traded one of my 4 Lady and the Tramp UK Disney Store pins for that spiffy Cheshire Cat Crest pin.

X3 Pin Trading Nights are awesome

Wow it looks like you certainly did well on your trip to DLRP its make me look forward to getting some nice trades when I get there even more then I was already.

I'm going to have to consider getting a few UK LE ones to take to trade for the boards if they've got nice ones on there!

:) Yeah, I'm so pleased with what I traded for. The UK pins I had went down a treat (especially the cast lanyard ones), so try and trade for some before you go!

Today I traded for a Squirt pin at the Manchester store. :( They only have one lanyard out now, because both pretty much only have store bought pins on them now. New people need to go there and trade!

Hi everyone

I bought my first ever pin yesterday! a £3 Nemo one :)

problem was, I felt weird to just get in the queue in the Disney Store & ask for a pin as they are displayed on the counter .. so i 'had' to buy a lovely light-denim bag with a classic Mickey print on it - perfect size to take to the parks! ;) (only £12 too!)

I traded a Squirt pin too in the Manchester store last weekend. I was the same as you and quite disappointed that there was only one lanyard and that all the pins were UK store ones. I don't know what they'll do on that score if people don't trade others? :confused3 I'm hoping they keep it going, I've really enjoyed it.

Cool - I'm glad you bought your 1st ever pin, I'm sure you'll become addicted too :lmao: And I know what you mean about having to buy something else too, it can't be helped, there's just too many nice things in those stores!

DD traded some last week at the trafford centre, she got one from DL. The CM were great and made a big fuss of her pins.

As promised, once I'd done my frames, I'd post a picture. This is the 1st one I've completed. There'll be another one shortly :)

Thats cool Rachel, I will have to do one of them:thumbsup2

Thank-you :) I've just picked out some of my favourites and put them in. I got the box frame from Wilkinson's, I think it was around £6. I then went to a local fabric shop and bought some black material for the backing.

At the Manchester store, the staff told me that they had ordered more pins for their lanyards. I don't know if they meant more Cast Lanyard pins, or just more trading pins in general. :) Either way, hopefully they will recieve them soon!

:lovestruc And OMG, that frame looks so awesome! I'll definatly have to look into getting some of those, as my corkboard is looking really crammed since a I re-did it. Can you please explain how you've got them all to stay there? Like, are they simply inserted into the back of the frame or is there something else there other than the fabric?

Rachel - what a fab way to show off your pins... might have to borrow that idea :goodvibes

That frame looks cool with the pins in it.
I bought 2 exactly the same from Wilkinsons when I was last in the UK, with a plan to put lots of little Florida keepsakes in (park tickets, napkins, menus - that sort of thing). Might have to stick a few of our favourite pins in as well as it looks so good. :thumbsup2

I really like the frame, although, I'm still on the hunt for another pin bag since my pins are now being held on pieces of felt since the bag is so overfull! I have a habit of changing the way I arrange my pins and so a frame might be a silly idea for me, although do one for my new house...

Thank-you! I can explain yes, I tried a number of things when pinning them in there and found the best way to keep them still was by covering quite a firm piece of cardboard with the material you choose. This way, the pins will go through the cardboard and still have space to pin the Mickey heads on the back to hold them in place. Just make sure when measuring that you keep the cardboard to the same size as the inner frame, it does need to to quite a snug fit to keep them in place :thumbsup2

Thanks, I wanted a way to show off some of the ones I have so went searching and found the frames. I've got another to fill yet and then I'm going to get a smaller one for my LE Disney Princess ones.

That'd look fab to show off some Disney keep-sakes alongside having some pins in there. Once you get them done, be sure to post them and show them off! I'd love to see them :)

On another note, I've been to the Liverpool One store today to trade and there was only one pin other than the instore pins on the lanyards now. They didn't know when they were getting any others. I did trade for the other pin, as it was a lovely Jimney Cricket pin :)

I know that both The Trafford Centre & Manchester city centre stores are doing this, I was told that last weekend.

I'm going down to the Trafford Centre at the weekend to try it out, I'm hoping there'll be some good ones to trade :thumbsup2 We'll see....

cant wait :D hopefully we wont argue about them lol :thumbsup2

I think that trip to the trafford centre will be on the cards for me next weekend then :goodvibes

I've also framed my pins I've put a Disney themed background in there as well. It was good fun to do I got the idea from seeing something similar on another site

have a little look at my pirates frame

edit to say I forgot that I already posted this in another thread a couple of days ago, still looks good though..I'm going to see if I can find a photo of my Mickey collection I knew I took one but can't remember where I saved it. Mickey collection is a work in progress I'm not sure what to do with it next though
