I'm not sure who to contact over this - or if I even should, but this has me very frustrated so I figured I'd at least ask here first.
We just got back from our trip, 6 nights at GCH and 5 days in the parks (although on the last we upgraded to AP!). On our 2nd last morning there we had breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen with our 3 kids (2, 4 and 6). On the way out the kiddo's stopped to play in that Autopia car, and then a CM at the DVC booth stopped us to give the kids stickers. My 6 year old noticed she had pins and asked me if I had his lanyard to trade pins.
He has about 15-17 pins, all of which we've either bought while on a Disney trip or a few that came with out AAA packages - either way all legit Disney pins with the Mickey head back (although we need to buy those locking back since we've lost 2 pins...) Anyways, I had his pins, took out the lanyard, he chose one to trade and I put the rest away. We walked over and after looking at her lanyard he selected a teeny tiny windsurfing Mickey. First impression from me was that I'd never seen a pin like this and it seemed weird. Like very light weight and cheap. I thought about saying something to her as we left but didn't - I wish I had.
Anyways, I asked him if he wanted a different one and he said no he liked this one and wanted it for his 4 year old Mickey loving brother. So she takes the pin off her lanyard and we trade. He hands it to me and the back is a normal pin back (gold with the squeeze things) and I thought that was weird since they're always Mickey backs. I put it away because I'd read that CM's could only trade actual Disney pins, and kind of forgot about it due to trip excitement. I meant to ask another CM later at the Pin store but forgot.
So we get home and I get the pins out. The 'new' pin is broken into 3 peices. It's been stored with all our other pins - which are just fine. This pin is clearly cheap plastic that's coated with something to look like another disney pin. I searched online and can find no reference of this being a true Disney trading pin. I'm pretty sure we got ripped off by a CM.
So now we're out a pin (which I've always paid between $8-15), and my son is heartbroken. It was the only pin he traded the entire trip, and now it's trash.
I saved the 3 peices, thinking maybe I should mail them off to Disney so they can see it's a piece of junk pin - but then I think, they won't care. I have no idea about the female CM's name only the time/day she was working at the DVC booth. I feel like they need to let her know to closely watch the pins she's trading, not get in trouble, just make sure no other guests get ripped off.
So, I'm out a pin, my son is crushed, and I'm frustrated. I'm assuming there's nothing that can be done, but should I at least contact someone to let them know of this? As it was it seemed like very few CM's had pins to trade this trip unlike our last trip where 90% of them seemed to have pins. So we were so excited to find someone to trade with.
