I am helping a friend deal with a situation and I would like your input. This gets a bit long...sorry. Thanks. Maggie

About a month ago, my friend traded with someone through PinPics and it was a DA (popular character) for a different DA (popular character) pin.

When the other party received the pin that my friend sent, it was reported to be in bad shape. There was some reported scratch type damage, but they said the envelope was fine. My friend is extremely mindful of pin condition and I saw the pin before it was traded and I know that it was also perfect.

So, this trader asks for the pin they sent back. At the time, my friend didn't think that the traded pin had arrived yet, but it turned out that their neighbor had it. The other trader had sent the pin with delivery confirmation and knew that the pin had been received a few days before. My friend agreed to send the pin back and apologized.

Now, there is some speculation that the other trader actually is pulling a fast one. The thought is that maybe they are trading up a damaged pin that they already had for the better quality pin that my friend sent out. Unfortunately, there isn't much way to know if this is really what happened. :(

In the mean time....
Life for my friend has not been easy. Both parents of the trader have been in the hospital. The Mom has been ping-ponging in and out of the hospital. The Father has had to have emergency surgery. They both live in different states from the one that she lives in too. And the Father In-Law was in the hospital for pneumonia. Needless to say, her life has been all about family. There hasn't been much room for hobbies. My friend has explained that the pin has not been returned yet due to these circumstances and again apologized.

Any letter that the other party has written has been answered in a cordial and timely fashion. The other party is now becoming a bit of a bully. They are threatening to post all of this over on Dizpins and get a moderator involved. They also claim that my friend's pin has already been shipped back some time ago, but the pin has as yet to arrive. Since the original trade was sent with delivery confirmation, one can only assume that the other trader shipped the damaged pin back this way too, but has offered no confirmation/tracking number.

So, in an effort to please the other trader, my friend was packaging up the pin last night and noticed the pin that was received had some discolorations and some mild bubbling. Nothing aweful, but as much of a jerk as this trader is becoming my friend felt that it was time to do some CYA. So my friend told the other trader about the damage.

OMG, you should see the outrage that the other trader has now. They can't believe that my friend never looked at the pin until now. My friend saw the pin when the box was opened weeks ago, but didn't think to do a full inspection at that point.

...hindsight....

The other trader is totally trying to rake my friend over the coals. I feel sorry for my friend because they are relatively new to the hobby and this bad experience is really turning into a huge turn off.

Now, I realize that in an ideal world this could have been handled much better, but....

At this point, my friend's life is becoming more sane. There are plans to mail back the pin this weekend. My friend is going to ship the pin insured, delivery confirmation, and the pin is going to be in more bubble wrap than the law should allow. lol

If a PinPics moderator becomes involved, do you think that they would be understanding of this? I am, but then again, I know the person really well. Thanks for the input.

Before doing any more, I would probably start checking a few references on the trader. Just for a piece of mind if nothing else.

Gee, sounds familiar! Seriously!

I told them to get a mod involved
if they felt their was a problem
as I KNEW my pin was flawless...
I never heard back...

I certainly wouldn't be doing any more
pin mailing until I talked with a mod
OR checked (by email not just looking
at their list) their references...

I love the people I have gut feelings
about that just get people's email
addresses directly from pinpics OR
from a rejection to a TA! (another reason
I NEVER respond to a TA I don't want!
Sorry! AND I'm listed as an anonymous
trader on pinpics!)

Hope it works out!

Update.....

The jerk got his pin back today. He had claimed that he had sent the pin that was supposed to have arrived in his mail damaged some time ago. However, when pushed to come up with details for 4 days, he finally came up with the lame excuse of it was returned to him in the mail due to a mailing label that wasn't stuck down well. Yeah.....right.

So, my friend is not holding her breath about getting the original pin back. I think this guy is SLIME.

To give you an idea of how much of a weirdo this guy is, he still claims that my friend never apologized about the situation. He wrote to her that she seemed to be mentally ill.

I have to say that he seems like a real shark. To hate sharks like he claims that he does, he certainly has the act down pat.

Anyway, to all those that want to know the name of who to avoid, just email me. I am so ticked off at this point, the gloves are off.

Maggie
