OK, I have seen lots of Pin trading comments and some talking about giving pins away...etc. Is there a list of Pin etiquette somewhere for wanna be rookies like me?

:jester:

I've been collecting pins for a few years and have some tips to offer, bu tprobably not all of them...

1. All of the serious pin traders are located at the Downtown Disney kiosk. These people are guests and so they are not required to trade with you. Also remember, they know the value of just about every pin. Just something to keep in mind if they seem really eager to trade with you...

2. The CMs MUST trade with you! It is a rule that you may trade any official Disney pin in your collection for one on their lanyards. A good way to get your collection going is to buy a lot of pins cheap on eBay and then trade for better ones that CMs are wearing.

3. Remember to have fun!

If anyone else has anything important they can put it here too. I am always hungry for more pin info.

Hope this helps :)

Just remember, any CM wearing a GREEN
lanyard can only trade with kids! ::yes::

I have a handful of the same pin I bought at a garage sale, but they are Disney Store pins. Are they still fair game for trading with cast members?

Yes, you can trade Disney Store pins!

Now, I have a question. Is a 12 year old considered a child for trading with the CMs with the green lanyards? Anyone?

Thanks,
Debbie:earsgirl:

Just remember though, if a CM already has the pin that you are using as part of a trade they will not trade with you. That is, they will not accept a pin, as part of a trade, if they are already are wearing it.

Thanks, good to know. We have been a couple times and bought some pins for DD but have not engaged in any trading yet. Can't wait to give it a try!

Do CM's ever give kids pins (without trading)?

:smooth:

Absolutely. The manager at WCC at WL gave my DD a Timon and Pumba pin one night while we were eating there. Then when I went into the Mercantile, I traded for a MK pin and the CM said they had the rest of the set in back and wanted to know if I wanted to see them. I said yes and when I asked could I trade for them, she gave me the other three to complete a 4 park set. So yes, it does happen and not just with the young kids.;)

Above all, let the kids have fun. We let our 4 year old trade pins and it was one of the best experiences he had. We bought him a lanyard and a bunch of pins. We stayed right with him of course but we let him approach the CMs and do the whole trade transaction himself letting him pick the pins he wanted to trade. No cares about what was worth what or what were the "big deal" pins. He had a blast and I think that's what it's all about. He is already getting ready to teach his (when we go) 3 year old brother the ropes when we go done in December. Definately a trip highlight !!

OK. what is the Lanyard used for other than to hold pins? Is there a ID badge or Park Pass or something that clips to the end of the Lanyard - or is it just empty?

Our DD, 4, also loves pin trading....

It is such a great experience for them and it really makes them feel empowered.....

We are going back this year in August, December and next May and we will let her trade pins each time.....

The original document is a pdf, but I compared WDW's pdf and this page and it is exactly the same, word for word.

I have been wondering about the "rules" to trade by. We bought a few pins on our last visit but the kids weren't interested in trading and I was glad because I was unsure what it all was about. Sounds really neat.
