Hi all,

I am relatively new to this specific board but a few friendly people pointed me this way for help. I recieved a handful of official disney pins basically for free from a garage sale. (the real story of how I got them is much longer and complicated.) I don't know where they came from, I just ended up with them. Since they have no sentimental value to me I was planning on bringing them to trade for ones that would mean something to me. However, I got much too scientific about it and realized these pins are not new and perhapse they would have some value to them. Is there anyway I could find out if they are worth more than just a straight trade in the parks? Or should I look at it from a typical person point of view and trade them for something that would be more sentimentally valuable?

Thanks,
Minnesota

There is a book you can purchase that tells you all of the things that you want to know about disney pins. We came across it in our resort hotel gift shop at POP, and just flipped through it, we never bought it though. I want to say it was between $25-$35. Hope that helps, I wish there was a way to find out online also, but who knows someone out there might know something else I don't.

First, can you post pics of the pins here? If you can, then maybe we can help you out a little bit more. Disney has realased a lot of pins, some worth money others not.

Second, check out these two web sites:

www.pinpics.com this site as pics and other info for nearly every disney pin every made.

www.dizpins.com this site also has a message board, with some hard core pin traders. If you have pics of the pins they may be able to help you out as well.

But try posting the pictures first, to see if any one can just help you out here or the other message board. Before you sell out money for a book, that is out of date before it came off the printing press.

One option would be to go to www.pinpics.com to determine exactly what you got, and to an extent, what it is called. Note that each pin listing has, besides the price and if it was limited, two important items.

These are members wanting and members willing to trade. This will give an idea of relative value. I have seen pins where the ratio has been greater than 200:1 which means they are extremely hard to get, desireable, and rare. Conversely, if there are more people willing to trade away a pin tahn are looking for it the "value" tends to be low.

The book, Tomart, list price ranges. However, I have seen a lot of inaccuracies concerning sources, especially with relation to Disneyana Convention pins. Also, as another poster said the prices are out of date even before the books come off the press.

Once you have names/descriptions of pins you can do an eBay search, looking for closed items and see if there have been actual sales. Again, this can give a good indication of relative value.

You can also do a little searching on ebay to try & find the pins you have. Then check out the completed auctions to get an idea.
