Pin Information Needed On Bootleg Pins??

Ok, I am trying to put all of this in the right spots, so
any help would be great.

Here we go. I was on pinpics and I was looking at the
different fantasy and bootleg pins that are out. I do
like some of them and watch to see what is new out there.

So, on the bootleg page, we saw the ones that we have
been told are bootleg (using a character that has a
copywrite on it etc etc). BUT, I really am confused why
the characters with McDonalds and with Coca Cola are
considered bootleg????????

My assumption (yes, we were always told not to assume)
was that especially with a major corporation, I thought,
they would of had permission? Not that those were
bootleg?

Just trying to learn But I thought it was a cool
question

You don't consider Disney a major corporation? A logo is also copyrighted and/or trademarked and can be duplicated as easily as a character.

Many of these pins say Disney on the back but do not have the (c). The Nude Jessica's are probably the most famous (infamous) example of this.

Ok, now you threw me way out there. Of course,
I know Disney is a corporation. I do not know
what that meant????? That is who the characters
are on the McDonald & Coca Cola I was questioning.

Yes, some of the pins have the Disney on the back
and I was curious about that. Your right it does
not have the c on it.

I really was under the impression that the McDonald
and Coca Cola pins were promotions done with Disney
involved. I really did not know that those specific pins
were bootlegs. I figured the Jessica you are referring
to and the other Tinkerbells that are out and about
were bootlegs. So, that just surprised me that the
McDonald and Coca Cola were from what everyone
is saying were also bootlegs.

hope it helps others to learn a little more about the
pins.

I think Dana understands what a bootleg pin is, I think she is specifically asking why the McDonalds & Coca Cola pins with Disney Characters are considered bootleg. In other words, why would a big corporation like Mcdonalds/CC make a bootleg pin??

Although I am not sure of the answer, I think it may be because even though they say McDonalds on them, McDonalds did not make them, they are considered bootleg Mcdonalds AND bootleg Disney Pins. Is that right?
Anyone Know?

Dana, that was the first impression I had after reading your post early this AM. I'm sure it's not what you meant but the way it was worded I thought it was kind of funny. Sorry if I threw you for a loop.

As Larry said over on Dizneypins it takes an agreement between 2 major corporations to make a legit pin with both logos on it. This is not accomplished easily and throwing a 3rd corporation into the mix makes it even more difficult. Look at the problems with the Lilo holding a fish that had Amlin on the back and not Pixar.

As I understand it (I do not collect McDonald's pins) there are legit pins made by McDonalds for use by their employees when they are doing their Happy Meal Promos for Disney films. The ones I have seen are small and usually made of soft enamel to keep manufacturing costs down.

I personally take the word of reputable persons in Europe when they say these are fake.

Last night it was bugging me. So I pulled out some
of the pins that I had that have the Disney Character
on them with McDonalds or Coca Cola.

I understand about the different color variations and
that they backstamp just the word Disney on the
back. Yes some just say Disney with "no" little c

But, I have a Snow White pin with one of the companys
on it and it has both their names on the back and the
little c???????? I was told that they were made back
in the early 80's????? So are these bootlegs?????
