Pin Display case

Ok. Before I go complain to Disney, I want to check here first. The Catalog display case, how do you hang it if you can? Or do you stand it on a shelf, or what? Is it supposed to be magnetic on the door (I can't tell if mine is or not)? Do you bother with the backs of the pins, or just stab them in?

The back of mine has 2 clips to hang it on the wall. The door just stays shut and the pins just push in... No backs needed.

The first one I got had a lot of damage as well. I sent it back and got a new one.

mine didn't have the clips. I called the catalog. They're going to see if they can send me the hanging hardware, and if not send me a new case. I don't even have the medallion (not that I really want it).

I received mine today but have to wait until DH takes DS to karate tomorrow to open and inspect! LOL I ordered seven of them!!!

I received 2 today, one was fine the other had broken glass. They are now sold out so they couldn't replace it but did give me credit.

The pin is under the glass in the styrofoam, it is covered by a small piece. It would be easy to miss.

I received my 3 today. 2 had badly scratched glass and one of those had scratches all over the wood and the door is warped. The last one had broken glass.

They are sold out.

I ordered the pin case for Nat for Christmas (missed out on the sale ) We ended up having to send it back because the glass was all scratched. There were some scratches on the wood too. Luckily the new one they sent was in really good shape. I was going to order a couple of more when the sale went on but they were sold out. We missed out on the valentine pins in the heart shaped box too

I was finally able to open the rest of mine today and they are all keepers. I was worried but didn't want to drag them all out and open and get the 3rd degree from DH about how much $ "those" cost! LOL

Two had very slight excess on the Pluto etching or whatever it was they used and I will use a straight razor and very carefully scrape the excess, it is ever so slight but glad it is on Pluto vs. Mickey as I think it would be more obvious on Mickey icon. I will also attempt it after I haven't drank two cups of coffee when my hands are 100%+ steady!

I know shipping had to have killed them on some of those orders. My shipping was only like 15.00 and some change and I received the 7 huge boxes with the pin display(s)which were quite heavy PLUS another very large box, probably 15-20 #'s, so 8 boxes in all on this order. Not sure what kind of deal they have with Airborne and U.S.P.S. but I'm sure it cost a great deal more than 15.00. Plus I used my DC discount for an extra 10% off the 50% off sale prices!!!

After everyone was reporting breakage and others & scratched glass, I tried calling the Best Guest # and ordering a few more and a couple of other items to get the Comic Carpet Bag luggage for free and they were already out of the freebie and it had just started on the 18th dang it!

Between the display cases and the leather pin bags and character pin backpacks I have enough storage/display space for many more trips to Disney and a couple of Cruises!!!

I have one display case with two more on order.
The medallion is hidden in the styrofoam in a compartment with a styro cover.
My case has two hangers attached on the back.
The glass has tape on it but otherwise looks fine.
The wood finish could be better but if they are sold out my only choice would be a refund. The rest of the order arrived already. I hope my display cases arrive safely and soon.
The door appears to have some weakish magnets which are flush with the inside surface.
They match up with steel(?) or magnetic flush inserts in the frame of the case. Not sure if both sides have magnets until I test with it a nail or pin.
After reading this discussion I opened the box last night to see if anything was wrong. The glass is really fragile looking and the whole thing went back in the box until I am ready to hang it on the wall with something more secure
than the hangers on the back. Seems like one bump or an earthquake and there would be a small disaster. The small display cases that the Disney catalog sold a while ago had a more secure way to attach to the wall.

Question: If one owns more than one case, do you have to put the pin/medallion in each case or could one just trade the extras away? Seems sort of funny to have the same pin displayed more than once. I mean the pin is part of the case and when the time comes to sell or leave the case to one's heirs the piece is incomplete without the pin that came with it originally.

IF anyone missed out and really wants something on sale, you might check your Disney Store for returns. I was in the store yesterday and someone had returned 900.00 worth of merchandise including display case(s), leather pin bags, character pin backpack and whatever else. The CM's had already snagged the pin display cases but had the other merchandise for sale at sale prices. Just a thought!

Hi everyone,

Our display case arrived today also. Unfortunately there were hairline cracks in the glass which could only be seen from certain angles. However, they could be felt from the inside. Check your glass carefully--what looks like a scratch may actually be a crack. The item is sold out, so there is no chance of a replacement.

Wow am I feeling lucky Open all six display cases I order today and all six were perfect. Now if I don't break the glass before they are hung I will be very happy as I am a Cunningham Sorry family joke I will be busy filling them up the next couple of weeks

Two cases arrived yesterday. Glass was scratched on both. Numerous imperfections on the wood finish. Going to return both to the Disney Store this afternoon on the way home from work. The quality of this case compared to the mantle sized display cases that I purchased from the catalog a while ago is quite poor. I think the manufacturers are different. A friend purchased a pin case too and sent it back because of all the scratches on the glass and case. I am keeping one case that I bought a month or so ago. It isn't perfect but there aren't any good ones left. I can crayon the small scratches in the wood. There isn't anything that I know will work on the glass, short of replacing it. If you do that then the nice Mickey and Pluto are gone!

The door on my good case doesn't hang real straight. I'm going to try tightening the hinges and if that doesn't work I'll get a new magnetic clasp at the store and attach it.

Anyone know of a way to get warped wood to straighten? Would putting somethine heavy on it for a few days help?

Please be really careful with your warped door. Do not stress the glass.
My guess is the wood was not seasoned properly in China. It is the middle of winter and the air in our homes is pretty dry even with a humidifier. This can cause the wood to warp. When summer comes and there is too much humidity your door may warp more or if you are lucky it might unwarp.
I'm not a wood worker but I believe steam is used to bend wood and you might want to talk to an expert about this. Perhaps some nice brass latches from the hardware store
would do the trick for you.

I ordered 3, hoping to keep 2. All 3 are flawed, scratched glass and/or scratched/damaged wood. Some worse than others. I will keep the "best" one, return the other 2. I considered switching parts around, to match the the best door, with the best case. But I think I will just live with the flaws.... But 2 will go back. I would be FURIOUS to get these if I paid $120.

But for $59.99, less my 35% CM discount, I can live with it.

The one I got is fine. there is a minor flaw int he wood, but a wood crayonw would fix that, and it's not in an obvious spot. The etching on the glass is not perfect, but you would have to really look at it to notice. i think it is a keeper.
i don't think I wil hang it though. It does come with the two "picture hanger" hooks on the back. i think it will rest on the floor.
