Do DVC members ever receive & use pin codes for anything? Free dining I guess is the only one we could use.

Does that even exist for DVC? :confused3

Thank you!

The special offers some receive via mail - like pin codes - are typically available only for reservations made thru DRC and/or travel agents. They are not available for use with reservations thru MS using points.

The reason being the discounts are generally meant to encourage people to visit who wouldn't otherwise come. DVC Members have already paid for their lodging in advance, so they are coming anyway.

so in other words if you are renting points from someone you can't take advantage of the free dining offers?

I don't know of any member willing to pay for your meal plan when renting their points.

Anyone who receives a pin code is more than welcome to use it - make a package reservation through CRO and follow the terms of the pin offer. You may even be able to book a DVC villa as part of the package, but CRO does not accept DVC points as payment towards the package. You can only use points through Member Services.

Why would they pay for my meal plan if it's a free meal plan offer? Did I miss something here? I was wondering if you are booked at a DVC resort for the timeframe of the free dining offer are you able to take advantage of that. No one would have to pay for it if it's a free dining offer? NO?

No. Free dining is part of a package deal through Disney. You purchase the room at rack rate, tickets for every guest on the reservation and you get free dining. You can't get a package using DVC points. Only cash through DRC, not Member Services. You can only use points through Member Services.

So in order for a non-member to get free dining buying a points reservation from a member, the member would have to pay for the dining package for the non-member renting the reservation. I don't think any member would be willing to do that.

When you rent points, you are making a reservation through a member, not Disney. So Disney has no reason to offer you a free meal plan, they are not making money from your reservation. I think the suggestion was that the member pay for your dining plan in order to get your reservation, which of course is unlikely.

By the way, OP, I get e-mail codes all the time. Plus I have the Disney VISA and I subscribe to Mousesavers.

definitely unlikely... I wouldn't expect them to do that. Thanks for clarifying.

So what if someone renting points gets an email code? Are they able to apply it then- or would that not be possible since the reservation is in the member's name? Sorry for all the questions- I promise I'll stop soon. :rotfl:

No. The only way to use a pin code is to purchase a package through Disney. That package includes a room at rack rate, park passes and the free dining plan. Since you are not purchasing a package through Disney you are not eligible for the free dining, code or no code.

No, neither the DVC member nor the renter would be able to apply the code.

There is nothing to apply. You don't own the reservation at all. Never. It always belongs to the member who used their points to make the reservation. A code is only through DRC, not through Member Services.

I have used codes in the past to make a reservation through DRC (Disney Reservation Center) at a non-DVC resort, like the GF or Polynesian. I gave all my money to DRC for the reservation at GF for four nights and got three nights for free. It had absolutely nothing to do with DVC. Nothing.

you can occasionally get PIN codes that can be used at DVC properties.
The free dining code and the 40% off room rate codes did work for me
for my Labor Day reservation at Bay Lake Towers. They have to be booked directly with Walt Disney Travel Company, and are considered resort reservations at a DVC property. No owner is involved.
After several changes, I got a standard studio at BLT for $239 per night plus tax, room only reservation. Since I booked with Walt Disney Travel.
I had the Free Dining at Rack rate but changed it to discounted room only.

That's true. All of the DVC properties sometimes have villas available to the general public for cash through the DRC. Discounts that DRC offers often apply to the DVC resorts as well as to the other WDW resorts.

But the OP is asking about reservations made with points through Member Services. None of the DRC discounts ever apply to points reservations.

No free dining available when staying on points but consider this.....

When you rent points from a member, you are paying a lot less than you would for a cash reservation at a deluxe or a DVC resort.

If you stay in a DVC resort on points, you could add the dining plan without having to purchase your tickets directly through Disney. Therefore, you could still purchase the DDP or DxDP and also get your tickets through a discount outlet like Undercover Tourist. I did this, locked in the current rate for tickets, and I also subscribe to Mousesavers so I get a bit of a deeper discount. 7-day tickets for the 4 of us cost $59 less than they would have directly through Disney, I am a DVC member (and I did not finance DVC so no interest paid), so I don't have to pay for my accommodations. It only costs me ticket and food at this point, in addition to the annual dues. In other words, in Disney's eyes, we are already getting some discounts, they already have us locked in since we are timeshare owners and will repeatedly come back (or someone will come on our points). So they keep the resorts, parks and restaurants filled up! And that is their goal.
