Hi. My lab had surgery in December. Unfortunately the pin in his leg has now moved and it needs to be removed. He is going in on fri. We are barely getting over the initial surgery. I feel really bad for him. He was just starting to walk nicely and get around the house more. He's been limping really bad since yesterday so I know this needs to be done. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has been thru this pin removal? My vet swears the recovery is not too bad.

I don't have any advice for you, but I'm curious as to what type of surgery your dog had to get the pin? My 7 yr old lab mix just had surgery for a torn ACL a couple of weeks ago - he had the TPLO surgery - and now has a plate and 6 pins in his leg. Is that what your dog had? I never heard that pins might have to be removed.

No Baxter had surgery for his knee. It kept popping out of place. I believe the official name was luxating patella. Before surgery the Dr. did say that sometimes the pins move and cause discomfort. Sure enough his pin moved a great deal - and that is with being perfectly cautious and following drs. instructions for 8 weeks. I know years ago when my brother broke his leg and had pins put in (they were supposed to be there permanently) he had problems and had to have them removed.

Good luck with your dog and maybe ask your vet if there is a chance that the pins would be removed. I know I would not have been happy if i didn't know that and he sprung it on me at my visit.
