sailing on the Wonder soon and I've got questions about the pillowcase thing.....
Dh is working on a graphic, I'm going to prewash the pillow cases and then do the iron on transfers.

I bought "Fabric Mate" superfine markers--a pack with black, blue, green brown, orange and red in there. It says permanent after drying 24 hours, pigment fabric dye. Also says: heat set recommended but not required.

Are these the markers I need? I thought I read somewhere that Sharpies were not the best for some reason. I'm not the most crafty person in the world, that's why I'm leaving this to Mickey and Minnie!!! Of course I want to give them the proper tools to work with!!!

TIA for any help!

When we went last August I had a t-shirt signed for my son and I gave them a package of different colored Sharpies.

We have washed this shirt many times in the year he has had it and the autographs are still clear.

I'm not very crafty either so I don't know what the ones you are talking about would do.

ohiominnie, someone did post about this earlier and they were concerned because the Sharpies had bled a little. I think you should be fine with the fabric markers. :wave2:

Just did mine last week -- I made the pillowcases (travel size) out of a high thread count percale and prewashed them.

I put them in ziplocs along with a pkg of the carribean colored sharpies. When we got home I heat set them (ironed) and washed them in the gentle cycle -- they are gorgeous!

Caribbean colored Sharpies?! What an EXCELLENT idea!!! :sunny: Thank you! :wave2: I didn't know about heat-setting them, either. You really learn a lot on these boards ::yes::

 I know my newbieness is showing but.... Could I get more info about these pillowcases? What are they for?? I assume :scratchin someone is signing these pillowcases. If it is characters, they would make great keepsakes! Do you bring them to character encounters instead of an autograph book?

I'd like to know more about signed pillowcases too. I did see the new yummy colors of Sharpie at JoAnn fabrics the other day. I often use Sharpie in stage costume work, and there is usually no problem. I also use Pigma brand pens....but they aren't in too many colors.

I am not an expert on this, and I don't have personal experience, but since no one else has answered yet, here is what I've read:

If you bring your own pillowcase from home (preferably a new one! LOL) and markers (Sharpies seem to be good, from all I've read), you can turn them in to the people at Guest Services and leave them. Then by the end of the cruise, they will be returned to you with ALL of the character's signatures on them. In case you don't know, each of the Disney characters has a very unique signature, so every time "Mickey Mouse" signs something whether its on the cruise, Disney World, Disney Land, or anywhere else, it will ALWAYS look the same. Hey it HAS to, there's only ONE Mickey Mouse, right?? :teeth:

Anyway...it's a cute idea, especially for kids (although anyone can do this, not just kids), they can use the pillowcases when they get home and it's a fun reminder of their Disney cruise. :sunny:

Just returned for our 11/1 cruise and we did the t-shirt thing.
If you take it to Guest services they will have it signed for you and let you know when you can pick it up. Ours took a day. I packed all the different color markers and then left them in the room. Didn't feel like going back to get them so they were signed all in black. It doesn't matter what color they are signed in, they still turn out adorable!
