I know this is a strange question but.... can you take your own pillow on board the plane ?

Thx

Yes, if it fits inside you hand luggage and your handluggage fits both within the BAA and your airline's hand luggage size regulations.

You cannot take a pillow "in addition to" your hand luggage.

I did 5 years ago as a extra piece of luggage along with my carry on and purse when flying from the US to the UK.

Rules have changed now - you are only allowed a single piece of hand luggage. So you are not allowed to have a purse (handbag) and an item of hand luggage (unless the purse fits inside your hand luggage).

If you are flying Virgin you get a small pillow and a blanket.

Goofyish is completely correct - the new/current rules have been in place for almost 2 years now: one piece of handluggage (within maximum dimensions) and everything you "carry on" (including purses, any other bags and pillows) must fit within that one bag...

I saw a neat little pillow in a stuff-sack (looks like a tiny sleeping bag!) that I'm thinking of buying if it's still there.

It was sold as a camping item, rather than for in-flight, but I thought it had potential ;) and it looked as though it was a bit bigger than the ones that are provided on the plane.

I think an ordinary pillow would take up an awful lot of room in your hand luggage :(

Coming back you can bring two items on board as I found out in January but definitely going out through a UK airport it is one item only. My cushion which is sold at places like Brookstone in the US fits inside my one item of hand luggage and is very useful. The new regs have been in for just under a year since all the problems at Heathrow last August. Initially they were very strict but have now been relaxed a bit, and as far as I am aware they will stay like this for some time to come.

Claire ;)
