Hi!! We leave on the 23rd for our cruise and I couldn't be more excited. I read that if you bring pillow cases and sharpies to guest services that they will be able to have the characters sign them. Is there a limit to how many pillow cases and also will they only do pillow cases or what are some other ideas to have the characters sign.

Also, are there any other things that are unique that you would suggest we have done or do? I'm all ears and am excited for this great experience. Third cruise but first with kids!!

Thanks!

They will sign 2 items per stateroom. You can do other items besides pillowcases. Photo mats are another popular item. There is a thread floating around here somewhere with what people have had signed. If you are doing something fabric, make sure to purchase the fabric markers rather than the regular Sharpies.

I took a 9" blank Vinylmation. I got all the characters and princesses to sign it. They are VERY hard to find these days. I keep looking since it's such a nice display item. I want another one.

There is a maximum of 2 pillowcases per room. The only exception is if you have 3 kids in your room then they will do 3.

I don't think all the staff know about the exception if you have 3 kids as there was a certain amount of discussion to get them to accept all 3 pillowcases for our 3 kids.

We put each pillow case in a separate, large Ziploc bag with six different coloured sharpies. You take them to Guest Services near the beginning of your cruise. There is a little form that you have to fill out. Ours turned out really nicely and were dropped off in our stateroom near the end of the cruise.

We only did pillowcases but I've seen mention of others doing photo mats. If you do a search you'll find some other ideas.

I saw a woman who did a Disney Classic storybook that she bought online. The characters signed the inside cover. It was really cute!

Thank you guys so much for all the information! I really appreciate it! I'm excited for some fun in the sun :cool1:

Just as an FYI: I found a bunch of them at DTD Pin Traders in December.

I did 16x20" photo matts with Sharpies on our first cruise and then pillow cases with fabric markets on our second cruise. They both turned out treat!

I haven't seen mention for quite a while and I believe we have several new to the DCL forum so worth mentioning... the reason for the limit is that this is something CMs do on their "personal" time -- something they have relatively little of to begin with. It is not an official offering/perk of DCL. CMs volunteer their time to sign these items for passengers.

Enjoy your cruise!

I think it's also worth mentioning that some people include a little "thank you" with their items for the people signing, usually candy of some sort. It's not necessary but CMs who post here indicate it is appreciated.

We purchased a 11x14 (approx) frame and a mat designed for autographs that fit the frame from Michaels craft store. The mat has a wide border and holds a 5x7 photograph. We sent the mat down for autographs. When we got home we had one of the photos from Shutters printed and then assembled frame, autographed mat and a beautiful picture of our nephew with Mickey Mouse. Much better than a pillowcase, IMHO. You MUST take the items to Guest Services, preferably the first night. We included a ziplock bag of candy as a thank you. If I knew how to insert a photo I would!

for anyone having pillow cases or other fabric items signed, put them in the dryer in high heat for about 15 minutes, or iron (dry~no steam) them to set the ink before washing. even with fabric markers!

I'm doing tshirts. However I wonder if a set of white Mickey ears or black Mickey ears with a silver sharpie would look cool

We're doing 2 personalized photo mattes, one for each kid's bedroom. :artist:

I'll just point out that, if leaving photo mats, it's a good idea to indicate the direction you want the signatures to face (whether you want a landscape or portrait orientation).
