There was a teaser on our local news last night that said, "Is Disney coming to Pigeon Forge. Big annoucement next week." Just wondering if anyone knows what this is about? I haven't heard anything. I know they own land a lot of places, so are they buying land or actually gonna build something there?

Not sure what that means but it was really on our local news. Just wondering if it's something real or just gonna turn out to be nothing.

Sweet! So far, if you believe the rumours, Disney is also talking to people about building parks in Peru, Brazil, Cyprus, South Africa, Indonesia, Dubai, and Australia, plus additional parks in the US states of Texas, Michigan, Illinois, New York, South Carolina, and Nebraska!

Don't Forget The Canadian Side of Niagara Falls!

Maybe you'll be getting Disney's America like we were supposed to in Northern Virginia.

buying dollywood doing some changes, and it'll become disney's america LOL

Ummm no way...no how...nope, nada

Cause in a bad economy where economic inequality is getting worse by the second and there are limited dollars available for travel...
...nothing says "get back on top" like building unnecessary vacation spots in Appalachia...

cause that's where the real money is.

Maybe Disney is starting a corporate fracking wing...

i'd sooner believe that:banana:

No way. I would lose respect for Disney if they were dumb enough to have something in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. Disney is classier than that. Besides, they usually go to a place it and it turns touristy, it usually isn't the other way around. I just can't see Disney in the land of air guns.

Well, I figured it wasn't another park. I'm not that crazy. Thought maybe a dvc or something. Yes, there is already a disney store outlet and tons of tourist stuff. Also, it was just an innocence question-finding some of these comments kinda rude.

I could see maybe a DVC, but I think it might be more likely that it could be an Adventures By Disney type of thing. There are some great hiking or horseback riding trails in the Smoky Mountains area, plus there are all the rivers for fishing, rafting, or kayaking. Then there is all the zip lines they are putting in.

I to agree that some of the comments have been on the rude side. I know that this subject has been brought up a number of times, but this was something you saw on your local news, and this was a valid question. You just asked a simple question, no need for the nasty comments. I think some people do not think before they write their comment.

I agree. I saw the post and got curious, but after reading the responses, Im thinking this is one rude bunch. The poster asked a legit question. I would be intrigued as well if I heard Disney mentioned on my local news.

Lulubelle, I am sorry that you got the response you got.

I'm in no way defending Anyone's post.

If you read more threads on the board you would know most of the people (the ones who tend to post. A LOT) are very pessimistic and cynical. I don't believe they were meant to be rude, I believe they are pointing out other examples of something like the what was mentioned in the OP.

The problem is every week something like this gets posted either for a new place or one we've heard many times before. The people who regularly visit these boards get tired of seeing people asking questions like this when we all know it's not true. Just because some local news agency is trying to attract attention by using the Disney name doesn't mean that anything of any significance is going to happen. There are many hurdles that have to be jumped before anything of any significance is even considered and a local news agency would not be one of the first to find out.

Let me apologize if my original post was snarky, insulting, etc.

As mentioned, we've been seeing posts like these for years. And just because the news mentioned it, still doesn't mean it's true. Ever since the late 60s anyone buying up land for no known purpose is attributed to "Disney". Heck, even my dad was telling me that Disney was planning a park in New England in the 70s.

The only "real" case of Disney buying land that turned out to be true was the DC area, which Disney was straight forward about - and as far as I know has don't a single thing about since buying the land. And they've announced a number of projects, DVC and otherwise, that have never come to pass. So even if Disney DID buy land, I wouldn't expect anything to come of it.

Did anyone actually see the report?

Thanks for all the comments. I don't frequent this board and haven't seen any rumors surrounding the area before. Perhaps I should have looked into it further before asking. There has been nothing else on the news. I think they will say something tomorrow. I also agree the news probably won't be the first place to hear something. Honestly, I learn more here than anywhere. Everyone was asking me since they know I'm a disney lover. I hadn't heard anything on here so I thought I'd ask. Anyways, I guess there's always hope

Glad I found this thread. I have an uncle on the tourism board in Pigeon Forge and he said that Disney approached them before about purchasing the land that surrounds DollyWood. They approved the purchase and he believes that Disney will be building a DVC resort as well as purchasing DollyWood (either before or after Dolly dies). He said that Disney made no comments regarding changing DollyWood should an opportunity arise that they could purchase the park.

So take that as you may....

We are hoping for a DVC resort since our family lives in the area. :goodvibes
